“THAT IS CALLED TASTE”- Chappell Roan Picks Future Classics From Female Artists, Leaving Out Taylor Swift in the Staggered List
When it comes to music world chatter about who is dominating the charts, one cannot even start without mentioning Taylor Swift. From her powerhouse presence and next-level album drops to her total takeover of, well, everything she touches turns to gold. And while she is out there making award-winning journalists scramble to keep up with the latest Swift news, there is a twist Swifties did not see coming. Despite having made the charts her home turf, Swift did not make it onto Chappell Roan’s star-studded future classics list while Swifties were left clutching their pearls when Roan totally left their queen off the list.
During her Midwest Princess Tour stop in London, Chappell Roan shared her picks for future classics, including ‘Apple’ by Charli XCX, ‘Say So’ by Doja Cat, ‘Good Days’ by SZA, ‘Please Please Please’ by Sabrina Carpenter, ‘Thank u, next’ by Ariana Grande, ‘Savage’ by Megan Thee Stallion, and ‘WAP’ by Cardi B & Stallion – but Taylor Swift? The 34-year old trailblazer was nowhere to be seen in the star-studded list. And needless to say, while it may thrill the Swift detractors, Swifties were quick to give Roan the side-eye.

Chappell Roan just made a splash at the MTV VMAs by swooping in and grabbing the Best New Artist win, leaving her competition, like Tyla, in the dust and serving up one of the night’s biggest snubs. While fans were still picking their jaws up off the floor, Roan threw another curveball by leaving Taylor Swift off her future classics list. Cue the global fan base split: some are all in, praising Roan’s bold taste, while others are giving major eye-rolls, wondering the whereabouts of the Song of the Summer.
Now, with fans on opposite sides of the fence, the only thing stealing the spotlight is the absolute chaos erupting on social media thanks to Roan’s picks.
Chappell Roan’s Taylor Swift snub leaves the Internet divided
Talent usually recognizes talent, but when Chappell Roan dropped her list of future classics, Swifties were not having it. Despite Taylor Swift’s VMA domination, endless chart-toppers, and a trophy room overflowing with awards, Roan’s decision to leave her off the list sent Swift’s fans on a wild ride—and not the fun kind. But it was not just Swifties raising eyebrows; fans from other corners of the music world had their own bones to pick.

Fans from various fandoms took the snubs personally, even though Roan’s playlist is not exactly gospel. Sure, awards are not won based on one person’s playlist, but for fans, these omissions were hard to ignore. As for Swift, some argue that the snub might be explained by her already legendary status. After all, she is not exactly waiting for future-classic status—she is living it in real time.
