Teddy Swim Stuns In An Enthralling Cover of Taylor Swift’s Iconic ‘Cruel Summer’ at BBC Live Lounge

The YouTube sensation, Teddy Swims has just delivered the most uniquely catchy rendition of ‘Cruel Summer’ by Taylor Swift. The singer made his name in the music industry through iconic genre-swapping covers that often go viral. earlier today, he took to the BBC Live Lounge stage to perform a soft-rock version of the 2019 track that has captivated the internet.

The song which ranks at number eighteen on the Billboard Hot 100 chart even today is a favorite among Swifties. Through the male vocals delivered by Swims in this fast-paced version, it was made all the more legendary. In the middle, he even slowed the tempo down to emphasize its chorus!

This enchanting version of ‘Cruel Summer’ has revived the songs only months after Swift served up two remixes of it herself. 

Swift’s new takes on the 2019 track

As fans of the 12-time Grammy Award winner already know,  Swift has been on a mission to re-release her previous albums after the rift with Scooter Braun. While she was dropping her new versions of ‘1989’ and ‘Speak Now’ last year, she threw in some remixes and live recordings of some other songs like ‘Cruel Summer’ too. 

In October last year, she dropped the ‘Cruel Summer (Live from TS | The Eras Tour)’ and ‘Cruel Summer (LP Giobbi remix)’ tracks. The LP Giobbi remix takes the synth-pop track and turns it electronic rhythmic melody. Meanwhile, The Eras Tour version captivated the Swifties’ energy resonated in the stadiums she played. 

The song has seen a resurgence lately, especially due to Swift’s The Eras Tour performances. 

The recent revival of Cruel Summer 

For her history-making The Eras Tour concerts, Swift chose to open with her ‘Lovers’ album making ‘Cruel Summer’ the second song she played during her performances. As a result, the score entered the music scene again and landed at number 1 on Billboard’s Radio Songs. It stayed there for 10 whole weeks even extending into the first week of 2024!

Last year, Jack Antonoff gave his take on the song’s popularity citing Swifties’ obsession with its catchy nature as the reason behind its success. Due to the raging success of her tours, the track also made a comeback on social media dominating trends on TikTok. Judging by the new remix Teddy Swims has lent it, it is not going away anytime soon either.
