Taylor Swift dominating the 2024 VMA nominations with 10 nods, does not come as surprising since it has become an every-year phenomenon. However, a clean sweep is what seems unlikely the singer's way. Out of the prestigious nominations, Swift has the highest chance of bagging the Artists of the Year title, solidifying her position as a frontrunner. Given her immense popularity, endless merchandise, and chart-topping hits, swifties have not lost their fervor for their idol highly giving her the pass for the year’s big-time artist.

With this, follows another top category that the ‘Down Bad’ singer owned this year.

Best Collaboration

With ‘Fortnight’ from ‘The Tortured Poet's Department' shattering Spotify's single-day streams record and reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Taylor Swift and Post Malone's collaboration stands as a strong contender for Best Collaboration at the VMAs 2024. Their chart-topping success, coupled with 12 and 5 number-one hits respectively, makes them a favorite team amongst voters, ensuring a likely win in this category.

Best Cinematography

Shot by Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon and Barbie cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, Taylor Swift’s ‘Fortnight’ music video again, is a shoo-in for the Best Video of The Year category for the VMAs this year. Given the hype around the collaboration, and Prieto's excellent monochromatic take keeping the themes of the album intact, the 'Fortnight' is probably going to serve the Trump card for the songstress this award season.

Best Song of the Year

Taylor Swift's 'Fortnight' is undoubtedly her frontrunner for Best Song of the Year, with its introspective themes resonating with critics and fans alike. The album's 31 tracks have garnered widespread praise, but ‘Fortnight’ is a standout, exploring complex emotions through evocative imagery. Its troubled romance narrative, catalyzed by Swift's storytelling prowess, makes it a compelling choice for top honors.

However, that is not all ‘Fortnight’ is deserving of.

Best Video of the Year

Directed by Swift herself, the ‘Fortnight’ music video is equally a top contender for the Best Video of the Year having roped in stars from the timeless classic Dead Poets Society which originally inspired the album's name in the first place. Featuring Ethan Hawke, and Josh Charles. The visually stunning clip weaves together themes from the album, with hidden references and Easter eggs waiting to be uncovered.

Taylor Swift's attention to detail and innovative storytelling cement her status as a visionary artist, making ‘Fortnight’ a shoo-in for this category. While serving the likes of Taylor Swift, it is also to note that where it is the seventh nod for the songstress, it is running the frontline for Post Malone, in the best video winner category. Hence, regardless of who claims the title their own, the music video ‘Fortnight' is sure to travel places.

Love in the Air: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Take a Much Needed Break, Amidst Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's Rendezvous

In case it goes to Swift, it would mark her fifth victory with the title, for three back-to-back years becoming the first to bag the latter. However, following this, the chances fade.

categories with a miss

Taylor Swift's prospects in other categories namely, Best Direction or Best Editing may be more challenging, as she faces stiff competition from big names like Ariana Grande (comeback version), Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter’s thrilling ‘gay awakening’ and Eminem. Fans of these artists may split the vote, making it difficult for Swift to sweep all 10 categories. Nevertheless, Swift's strong nominations ensure she shall be a major player at the VMAs.
