Taylor Swift Throwback! 25-Year-Old Images of Singer Enacting ‘Grease’ Sequence Resurface
Taylor Swift may be one of the most well-known pop artists in the world today, but it took her a lot of effort and improvisation to get here. At the mere age of 9, she had begun performing in musicals at the Berks Youth Theatre Academy. Afterward, she found herself in love with Shania Twain’s music, eventually leading her to the country-pop genre that she is now deemed queen of.
Before she found her calling, she dabbled in all kinds of arts as a youngin. Among them was theater, and some glimpses of her endeavors from then emerged online recently.

Yesterday, comedy star, Tobin Mitnick shared some images on his Instagram page of himself and Swift as kids. He explained that they were from June of 2000 when he and the pop sensation were “harmonizing like buttah on summer nights”. They showed the duo in various settings preparing for their performance, including one of them on stage in which Swift had donned a blonde wig to deliver her role of Sandy from Grease.
Apparently, his mother had dug them “out of storage”, a move that Swifties are probably thanking her in their hearts. The baby-faced Swift, who was once the youngest artist to win an Album of the Year Grammy, stood beaming in the captures, clearly enthused while doing what she loved most, performing! In the 1978 classic, Grease, Sandy was portrayed by now-deceased actress and music mogul, Dame Olivia Newton-John.
Not only did Swift imitate Newton-John’s performance in Grease, but also did a cover of one of her songs as a youngin.
Swift’s rendition of an Olivia Newton-John song
One of the many tracks that Grease featured in its musical scores was ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ by Newton-John herself. As Sandy, she performed it as an ode to her lover in the movie. Years later, Swift chose this Grammy-nominated track to make an adaptation of it in her own voice as a 12-year-old. Decades later, Newton-John’s Instagram page also shared an image of Swift from the Grease play, mentioning her thoughts on the 34-year-old.

During an interview with Weekend Sunrise in 2017, Newton-John spoke about Swift and the song that she had redone in her early days, reverberating with the same pitch-perfect melodies that she is known for today. Newton-John compared her journey in the entertainment industry to that of young stars like the 12-time Grammy winner saying that Swift had done a good job even though it was tougher nowadays.
