Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ was on the verge of facing its first hiccup after an impressive 12-week streak on the Billboard 200. However, Swift, known for turning minor setbacks into major triumphs, managed to avoid any such significant issues with a more recent update. Chart Data recently announced on X that her album has sold over a million vinyl copies in the US. With this achievement, Swift’s 11th studio album has become the second-fastest to reach this milestone in the 21st century.
Famously or infamously, Swift is known for churning out multiple versions of her albums, a strategy that has both attracted fans and stirred up her rivalry with Billie Eilish. Initially, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ had 19 physical versions, including nine CDs, six vinyls, and four cassettes. However, in the past 3 months, the collection has been enlarged by 12 more versions, totaling an impressive 31 variants of the ever-expansive album.
Luminate’s recent mid-year report has further bolstered the case for Taylor Swift’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ as a frontrunner for Album of the Year, highlighting its significant lead over other contenders.

According to Luminate’s midyear report, Taylor Swift’s April release, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ has been declared the biggest album of the year so far. The album has sold 4.66 million equivalent units, which includes both pure sales and streaming equivalents. Swift holds a commanding lead on the mid-year rankings, as no other album has surpassed the two-million equivalent mark yet.
Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing at a Time’ is in second place on the list. Despite being a major hit last year and continuing to perform well in sales and streaming, Swift has outperformed Wallen on the charts. Her album has sold over two and a half times more units than its closest competitor, Wallen's 'One Thing at a Time'. With every new piece of data, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ solidifies its dominance, leaving its contemporaries far behind.
