From a bombastically successful world tour that went on to redefine what it means to be a top-selling music artist to an album that got both critics and fans talking, Taylor Swift has arguably proven herself to be the artist of the year. However, both Billboard and various other statistics presented their own arguments.

Swift failed to secure the spot of artist of the generation, causing an uproar in the music industry as onlookers provided evidence of the 'Midnights' singer climbing to the top of every chart. While that could not change Billboard's decision, major evidence has landed in Swifties' court to support their claim.

2024 has earned many definitions varying from person to person, but one thing is that it has not been called static. The year came with remarkable change, especially for the music industry, as artists emerged from their resting periods while others went on to further cement their standing. Taylor Swift, who started the year as the most streamed artist on Spotify, was one such artist who ended the year stronger than once again Spotify's #1 artist of the year.

With everyone from Ariana Grande and especially the competition that came in the form of Billie Eilish, this was definitely no easy feat to achieve for Swift, despite having a chokehold grasp on her audience. The path further doubled in hardship as her 'The Tortured Poets Department' album came as a hit and a miss. Regardless, the singer has swiftly persevered the storms.

While Taylor Swift ending the year as a top artist did not come as a surprise, however, it did raise the question of whether the throne will always remain hers.

Is the music industry's throne indefinitely Taylor Swift's?

The early 2010s were a very happening period for the music industry in ways that the current scene will have to step on a treadmill to catch up. From Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, releasing some of his best works to Katy Perry, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift, battling it out as Miley Cyrus continued to throw wrecking balls. However, the past few years have been owned solely by Taylor Swift, both due to the lack of competition and due to the singer's never-easing grip on the top spot.

Through the artful recycling of old tunes and the calculated release of new ones, Taylor Swift has shown that she covets the throne as fiercely as it seems to covet her, which, as clear by the several hiatuses, is not a trait that many possess. Therefore, if a 'Reputation' re-release is anywhere in the works, which fans strongly believe that it is, then Taylor Swift is sure to hold her reputation as the top artist.
