Similarly, although Swifties have had field days, looking out for crumbs to watch Taylor Swift take center stage in the future, the debates and discussions on her next era have paused with Hollywood in its worst one so far. However, time stops for none, and taking a global leap, Swift may have found her upcoming era’s righteous hotspot, China. 

While fans were buckling their seatbelts for ‘Reputation (Taylor’s Version)’, a China takeover was certainly not on the Eras card.

According to The Paper, a Chinese media outlet’s report on Tuesday (via Bloomberg News), Taylor Swift’s team has had “preliminary talks” over a potential concert show in Shanghai this year. Deputy director of Shanghai’s Culture and Tourism Bureau, Zhang Qi, revealed having met with Swift’s management in the city. Although a timeline has not been set for the stage show, they are hopeful about it happening by this year, probably by the end of 2025.

The deputy director reported on the sidelines of a local political event that Swift’s show could take place by the end depending on the “market and attractiveness of the city of Shanghai.” Although Swift’s publicist has yet to comment on these recent developments, China is “optimistic” and delighted to welcome the pop princess, especially now, after her Eras Tour concluded last month without a stop at The Celestial Empire.

China seems to be on a mission to stimulate consumption in 2025, but Taylor Swift is not the only star the nation is eyeing—Travis Scott and Cardi B could take over China soon as well!

According to a recent report by South China Morning Post, Haikou’s tourism officials are eying the top-selling US rappers following Kanye West aka Ye’s ‘Vultures’ listening experiences in 2024. They have extended invitations to Travis Scott and Cardi B to perform in the Southern Chinese land of Hainan province in 2025 after Ye’s two sold-out shows in September grossed millions from tourists visiting to watch him live.

Chief of the city’s Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Film, and Television, Wang Ke explained, Haikou is on a roll and sees itself as one of the “world’s unique performing art cities.” Plus, considering 95% of Ye’s concert-going audiences were from outside the province, Haikou looks forward to broadening the horizon for more such welcoming delights. With Taylor Swift also eyeing a Shanghai stage, the Great American Dream appears to be giving way to the Great Chinese Leap.
