Taylor Swift Just Took a Dig at Kanye West, Reigniting the 14-Year-Old MTV Controversy Just Days Before 2023 Event
Not Beyonce or Lady Gaga’s remarkable victories, the infamous stunt pulled by Kanye West is what had people discussing the 2009 MTV VMA Awards for years. West ambushing Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the event created one of the most iconic pop culture moments. It also marked the beginning of the bad blood between both artists that still remains unreconciled. Even though it has been over a decade, the ‘1989’ creator still seems to hold a grudge against the ‘Graduation’ artist.
The 2023 MTV VMA Awards is just around the corner. And the 33-year-old took this moment to bring back memories of her Iconic VMA encounter with the ‘Donda’ rapper.

The 12-time Grammy award winner is currently on her The Eras Tour making millions and rescuing her country’s economy. One of her recent shows in Mexico had the fans raise their roofs with cheers for the almost billionaire singer. Swift even expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming response from fans while sharing highlights of her show. The ‘Anti Hero’ sat down to play ‘Champagne Problems’ which was interrupted by fans’ loud cheers. This gave the ‘lover’ creator an opportunity to have a last word on the decade-old rivalry with West.
A viral video showed the pop star at her concert thanking the Mexican audience, saying playing in Mexico is something that was always on her bucket list. She went on to say that she would rather let “People chanting” interrupt her than any other way. Swift said, “It’s really the only way to be interrupted… and I would know,” hinting at the infamous incident of the 2009 VMA event. This reaction caused a stir on the internet as everyone speculated whether it was a diss at the ‘College Dropout’.
While Swift is making headlines with her The Eras Tour, she is also leading the 2023 VMA event with eight nominations.

Glowing in triumph with a whopping 540 awards, it would not be a surprise if Swift wins the most awards at VMA 2023. However, this 101 Guinness world record breaker is not running the race alone. Competing neck-to-neck with the ‘August’ singer, top musicians including SZA, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, and many others are not going to throw in the towel that easily either. Shifting from the fierce competition between the legendary singers, Shakira will be receiving a very special award at the event, reported by Deadline.
The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer has already made her mark at the VMA’s with four wins and a total of thirty nominations. And now the Colombian star is set to receive her first Video Vanguard Award, named after the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The 46-year-old will create history by being the first Latin American artist to win the most prestigious music award. With that being said, it is certain that the night of September 12 is going to be a buzz-worthy gathering after the 14-year-old MTV controversy.
