Taylor Swift’s Iconic ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Track Becomes War Cry for Swifties' Post-Trump Inauguration

Taylor Swift and Donald Trump’s feud is not news to anyone. Both are famous in their own right, standing on opposite sides of the political spectrum. Unsurprisingly, Swifties, Swift’s loyal fanbase, do not support Trump either. The 2024 election has only made things worse between these two camps. While celebrity endorsements do not matter as much as they used to, Swift's public support for the Democratic Party turned her into an even bigger target for Trump supporters. And now it looks like Swifties are throwing a little musical shade Trump’s way.

Earlier this month, Donald Trump was inaugurated for his second presidential term. Not long after that, Swifties came together and pulled off a coordinated streaming campaign. They chose one specific song from Swift’s album 'The Tortured Poets Department' and pushed it to blow up across streaming platforms. The track, 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,' saw a 177% increase in daily US streams on January 20—the same day as Trump’s second swearing-in ceremony. As per Chart Data, digital downloads of the song also shot up by over 1,000%.

As always, Taylor Swift has not come out and confirmed what 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived' was really about. But Swifties, who are practically professional sleuths at this point, believe it was most likely inspired by Matty Healy. The song itself is thought to represent a mix of fragile, insecure men who lash out at others just to feel better about themselves. Whether the track's sudden popularity was a clever, intentional jab at Trump or just coincidental timing is anyone’s guess, but Swifties are definitely having fun with it on social media.

Over on X, Swifties are gleefully patting themselves on the back for what they see as a cheeky and clever stunt.

Swifties use Taylor Swift’s pointed track as ammo against Donald Trump

Last year, Taylor Swift made her support for Kamala Harris loud and clear, which, unsurprisingly, drew a harsh response from Donald Trump. The Republican politician hopped on Truth Social to rant about the pop star, firing off the scathing words, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”. While the songstress kept quiet and did not take the bait, her fans were not about to let him off the hook. They stepped in and made sure their voices were heard—and it looks like they are still dishing it out to Trump, even after the election.

Fans had a blast cracking jokes at the president’s expense, even pulling out some lines from the track they thought was the perfect burn.

It was not just the fans, a whole bunch of other pop stars have recently come forward, venting their frustrations with the re-elected president and his policies. Nonetheless, while political disagreements are as American as apple pie, the Swifties’ latest clever little jabs definitely gave the internet something to laugh about.
