When Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey attended the 2024 Grammy together, it led all pop culture fanatics to dig into their history to figure out how the two songstresses connected and what brought them together. Nonetheless, both pop stars have been close friends for the past few years and were also spotted together frequently as of late. They have even collaborated on songs like 'Snow on the Beach'. Yet, there has always been a common thread linking them, someone who also deserves the credit for bringing this friendship to life in the first place.

This common thread, also Taylor Swift’s longtime collaborator, has once again taken on one of Lana Del Rey’s music projects.

Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey became friends through their mutual connection with Jack Antonoff. Antonoff was working on both Swift's 'Midnights' and Rey's 'Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd' at the same time, which got the ladies spending more time together. Recently, in an interview with Time, Antonoff revealed that he has been working with Rey on her upcoming album, 'Lasso' too.

Antonoff, however, is holding back on sharing too much about the project before it drops because he wants “the music be the first entry point for people.” The Bleachers frontman has collaborated with Swift since 2014 when he produced some tracks on her album '1989', and with Del Rey since 2018 on 'Norman ***ing Rockwell!'. Last year, Antonoff mentioned how he invested in the friendship between these powerhouses.

Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey first bumped into each other at the MTV EMAs in 2012, but they did not really become close friends until recently. During a December 2023 chat on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Jack Antonoff said, “I’m really proud of those two.” He talked about how the pop stars have been working together for a while now and have found a groove where things keep getting “loonier and loonier”.

Antonoff shared, “A big theme is, like, investing in long relationships. It makes me feel sweet.” He also told Zane Lowe once that there is “magic” that still catches him by surprise when working with the two pop queens. “I feel that way with Taylor, I feel that way with Lana, I feel that with my band,” the music producer added. With 'Lasso' on the way, fans will hopefully get to see even more of that collaborative “magic.
