Recent reports have confirmed that Taylor Swift is expanding her Rhode Island mansion for $1.7 million. According to a building permit from November 2024, the Eras Tour sensation is adding a new wing to her waterfront property in Watch Hill, a coastal neighborhood in Westerly, Rhode Island. The permit also indicated the house will feature an additional bedroom, approximately 16 by 24 feet in size, along with new bathrooms—though the exact measurement for the room has not been specified. Swift’s kitchen is also going for a modern upgrade.
Swift purchased the mansion back in 2013 for a whopping $17.75 million and soon transformed the Ocean State by making it a celebrity hotspot. During an appearance on The Ellen Show, she once described Rhode Island as her favorite vacation destination, where she also often invites her Hollywood friends. Unsurprisingly, the Rhode Island mansion has been a wellspring of artistic inspiration for Swift too.
In her 2020 album, 'folklore,' Swift explored the story of the former owners of the Rhode Island home, also known as Holiday House.
The house that inspired a Taylor Swift song
In the 'folklore' album, Taylor Swift released a track titled 'the last great american dynasty,' through which she paid homage to the tale of socialite and philanthropist Rebekah Harkness, who married William Hale Harkness, heir to the Standard Oil fortune, in 1947. Together, they bought the Rhode Island beach house, where they threw lavish parties before William Harkness’ untimely death in 1954.

Rebekah Harkness became known for her eccentric behavior, and Swift beautifully captured the town’s reaction to her in the song. “As soon as I found out about her, I wanted to know everything I could,” said Swift in an Entertainment Weekly interview. Now with this renovation, Taylor Swift shall continue to turn this Rhode Island gem into a reflection of her artistic journey.
