Amidst the impending ban on TikTok, the debates and discussions have considerably spiked, anticipating its impact on showbiz as a whole. Although the influence is supposed to be equally disastrous for every field in the entertainment industry, the forecasts are a tad bit more shaky about the musicians of the spectrum. Yet, fans have been harnessing TikTok’s limitation to crown the queens of Western pop. However, in a shocking social media shake-up, Taylor Swift’s TikTok reign has been toppled.

Despite her reputation for shattering records, the pop sensation was outpaced by two divas, who seized the top spots and left Swift in their wake.

Since the existence of TikTok fell under scrutiny amidst the US’ extensive digging into Chinese tech giants, the forecast for the musicians was somewhat stormy, threatening to upend their popularity. TikTok’s suspension is a little down the line but About Music on X recently shared the list of the most viewed pop queens from TikTok videos containing their music. And Taylor Swift’s reputation seems to be already living on borrowed time with Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion, leading the chart with 155 and 134 billion views.

Swift is ranked third with 122 billion views succeeded by her music industry nemesis, Billie Eilish, with 107 billion views. The rest of the list includes Nicki Minaj (96B), Shakira (95B), Karol G (93B), Cardi B (72B), Beyonce (68B), Olivia Rodrigo (67B), Meghan Trainor (66B), Sia (63B), Rosalia (60B), Dua Lipa (57B), Ariana Grande (49B), and Mariah Carey (45B). Miley Cyrus, Sabrina Carpenter, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga round out the list with 43, 41, 37, and 27 billion, respectively.

Although Taylor Swift managed to make it to the top 3, could the looming suspension of TikTok pull the plug on her popularity further?

How could a TikTok ban affect artists like Taylor Swift?

President Donald Trump ordered the enforcement of the TikTok ban to be pushed back by 75 days, meaning the platform is safe and secure for US users now. Although the forecast on showbiz is not great, if a ban does materialize, the entire music industry will have to return to the old ways of promoting artists like Taylor Swift. Should the US terminate the app from usage in the country, record labels handling artists will have to put their money back into artists’ development.

According to Reuters last year, Swift stood against Universal despite being its artist by putting her music back on TikTok just weeks after Universal artists’ music disappeared over a licensing stall. Given a global-famed artist like Swift understood the impact of TikTok, the after-effects of the ban could be particularly seismic, to say the least. While the loss of revenue and access is just the tip of the iceberg, such a possibility could bring an era of doomsday instead of an anticipative one.
