Taylor Swift Brushed Aside Legendary Kim Gordon, Picks This Rival of Her as the Pop Icon

Taylor Swift has long commanded the music industry, capable of causing seismic shifts in the charts with even the slightest gesture, a testament to her unparalleled influence over millions of fans worldwide. As she completes her billion-dollar tour, Swift embodies the very essence of a contemporary pop star. Yet, despite her widespread acclaim, the critical reception, particularly from her industry peers, is far from unanimous. Among her detractors is Kim Gordon, who may have unintentionally restarted a fan riot.

A seasoned musician in her own right, Kim Gordon has candidly admitted she is not among the ranks of Swifties. Yet, the true intrigue lies in the fandom she has embraced instead.

In the wake of her re-released albums, which have dominated both the music charts and award seasons, Taylor Swift has transcended into a cultural phenomenon. Her fandom, likewise, has emerged as an indomitable force. However, intentionally or not, Kim Gordon has reckoned with them, as she stated in her The Guardian interview that she is “not really a fan of Taylor Swift,” and added that she would “choose Billie Eilish” as the cherry on top.

Gordon made the statement when she was asked about her controversial pop culture opinion, which lays to rest the possibility of her not knowing just how scathing Swifties can be. However, it is unlikely that she had made the statement out of spite. Considering her storied career with Sonic Youth, Gordon's musical affinities naturally align more closely with that of Billie Eilish.

While Kim Gordon's preference may merely reflect her musical tastes, in light of the controversy following the releases of Swift's and Eilish's albums, her statement has effectively poured salt on freshly opened wounds.

Taylor Swift dropped her highly anticipated album on April 19, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. However, at the time of release, audiences were unaware that this was merely one part of the numerous variant releases that would follow. While the marketing strategy had already ticked fans off, things turned more vigilante when Swift released a variant around the same time Billie Eilish dropped ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft.’

This naturally led to a fandom war where Taylor Swift was accused of blocking Billie Eilish’s album in an attempt to reign supreme on the music charts. Amidst all of this, the latter’s statements about the environmental toll that vinyl variants have caused did not sit well with the Swifties, who were already engaged in fighting off private jet accusations.
