The two of the most prominent singers in the pop music industry have made massive inroads into the box office this year with their respective concert movies. Released on December 1, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, opened up to north of a whopping $21 million. Moreover, the haul coming close on the heels of Swift’s The Eras Tour, amassing $250 million in its entirety, set a record. A one-of-a-kind for two concert films to reach blockbuster status together in the same calendar year now belonged to the music industry.
Interestingly, the sheer numbers for Queen Bey’s movie are yet to account for the global revenue which would well sail the film past several digits and cement it as one of this year’s biggest releases. Competing head-to-head with Marvel Studios’ ‘The Marvels’, Beyoncé has the upper hand with weeks of viewing ahead. Moreover, the Renaissance concert movie’s numbers are a record in themselves as the highest gross for this very weekend in the last 20 years.
The idea of togetherness was in its foremost display when Taylor Swift flew over swiftly to attend the London leg of Beyoncé’s premiere.
