Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish share a rich history. Both prodigious child talents turned Grammy-winning global pop icons have often cheered each other's achievements in the industry. Swift even handed off the torch to Eilish at Billboard’s 2019 Women In Music with the Woman of the Year Award. However, lately, there has been some fan-driven friction between the two, who have always been known for their mutual admiration for each other. 

While the internet was busy speculating about the potential clash between the pop stars, Taylor Swift announced three new digital editions of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. The ‘Cruel Summer’ singer revealed via her Instagram story that she is releasing first draft phone memos of tracks ‘The Black Dog,’ ‘Cassandra,’ and ‘Who’s Afraid Of Little Old Me.?’ The announcement followed closely after Eilish, in a Billboard interview, criticized artists who flooded the market with vinyl variants.

"I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is," she said. Many fans interpreted this as a slight against Taylor Swift, who is famous for releasing numerous versions of her albums. They vented their frustration at the ‘bad guy’ songstress. Later, Eilish took to Instagram to defend herself and urged fans to stop "putting words in my (her) mouth”. Interestingly, there has been a change in tone, with fans now directing their criticism towards Swift and defending the 22-year-old in the process.

Fans have now united in support of Billie Eilish while alleging that Taylor Swift is attempting to steal her thunder. 

After confirming that “a whole album of new music” is coming soon, Billie Eilish finally dropped her third studio album 'Hit Me Hard And Soft' on Friday. The timing of her album release and Taylor Swift’s vinyl has led fans to speculate that the ‘Red’ creator is purposely preventing Eilish from climbing the charts, following the ‘lovely’ singer’s remarks on vinyl variants.

Fans also accused Swift of trying to "block" Billie Eilish.

Fans raised questions about the timing of Taylor Swift's vinyl release, which they felt was strategic. 

On the other hand, there were, of course, many fans who stood by Taylor Swift, nonetheless. They also shared their excitement about the digital releases. And as for the clash, only time will tell where fans will take this.
