“Taylor could never”- Olivia Rodrigo’s $186 Million GUTS Tour Success Leaves Taylor Swift Fans Feeling the Pressure

Fandoms steer starships to the crown that the stars eye from the onset of their careers. But fan armies also tend to dent other vessels to fasten the journey to that throne. Just when the Taylor Swift fan club was busy warming their hands with the Travis Scott Melbourne massacre to make their stand firm on a pedestal above his, Olivia Rodrigo’s one threw a few Swifties under the bus in the wake of the ‘GUTS’ celebration they believe shall never become the cup of tea for Swift. Now that Rodrigo’s fans are swapping spots, Swifties’ triumphant trumpets have sadly turned out to be the shortest celebration yet.

According to the recent Billboard Boxscore, Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS Tour has officially become the highest-grossing tour by an artist born this century with $186.6 million in earnings. Although the keywords here should be a 21st-century artist, it had Rodrigo’s fans directing their celebratory fireworks towards the Eras Tour creator and performer, Taylor Swift. Even with the 34-year-old pop star being far from the Gen Z-born artists, Rodrigo’s fan club believed such a milestone would never find a home in Swift's kismet.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has achieved what many touring artists have not. However, drawing comparisons based on artistic milestones in this context is practically impossible since Swift was born in the 1990s and Olivia Rodrigo in the 2000s and rightly, she, actually, could not have done that. Even if one tries to meet halfway and suggest that Swift could never replicate such success, it raises the question of whether fans genuinely care about their artist's success or revel in the perceived shortcomings of others.

It is not new for fans to turn on others during a celebration just to take a jab at another artist. However, with Taylor Swift’s fans now under negative scrutiny, the fandoms have become victims of their own traps, despite the honor that has been bestowed on Swift periodically.

Olivia Rodrigo’s fans’ celebration of the GUTS tour is a nightmare for Taylor Swift enthusiasts

Last year, Taylor Swift made history as the first pop star to earn over $1 billion from her Eras Tour, marking the first tour to surpass the ten-digit milestone. Despite becoming the highest-grossing tour of all time, overtaking Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, Olivia Rodrigo’s fans either miscalculated or were more focused on opposing Swift rather than acknowledging her or even Rodrigo’s achievements, for that matter.

Many hardcore fans were, of course, calling for the party to get started. But a few were busy asking Swift to step aside instead.

While Swift's talent has prompted many big-impact artists to step aside, it felt like Rodrigo’s fans were speaking for her despite her accomplishments. However, shifting the focus from the ones giving Swift the side-eye to the fans who made that milestone achievable in the first place, it was quite a spectacle to see X transform into a party with Rodrigo—who was, of course, the star of the show.
