Tate McRae Describes Collaborating With The Kid LAROI on ‘Me’ a “funny process” Over a Hilarious Reason

Love and music have always danced a fine duet, but when Cupid sharpens its arrows in the recording studio, results can be as beautiful as a chart-topping hit or as chaotic as a mic drop gone wrong. Showbiz rises and falls with the waves of trends yet the magic of collaboration never fades. Some pairings set hearts aflutter with anticipation while others conjure jaw-drops over the unexpected. Enter Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI—two stars caught in the gravitational pull of romance and rhythm. Speaking of their duet ‘Me,’ McRae revealed that their collaboration had less to do with studio chemistry and more with a funny twist.
The question is: what exactly made this collaboration a giggle-worthy affair?

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter at the Spotify Listening event about her upcoming third studio album ‘So Close to What’ and her collaborative track, ‘Me,’ with The Kid LAROI, Tate McRae opened up about what she calls a “funny process.” Once upon a songwriting session, McRae sat down and unknowingly penned what would become a leaky little legend, ‘Me.’ The track had a mind of its own, but The Kid LAROI was obsessed with what she describes as his “favorite” song. But when he loves something, he does not just stream it—he hops onto it.
The Kid LAROI tossed a verse into the song to make a future out of it with the goal of making it even better, eventually helping it land on McRae’s upcoming record. But behind the scenes, things were a chaotic mix of genius and goofiness. According to McRae, these real-life sweethearts cannot take each other seriously to save their lives. However, despite the studio stress and periodic unseriousness, McRae loved seeing LAROI in his element because nothing says romance like turning studio chaos into a hit song.
That said, this is not the only Tate McRae and The Kid LAROI collaboration in ‘So Close to What.’

Tickets were sold through ticketmaster.com with American Express and Neutrogena sponsoring the event before the album release. All the revenues will be donated to LA Fire Relief, the FireAid organization. Although McRae has set sights on a success story with ‘So Close to What,’ it looks like it is doing more than just reaching out to the stars, joining the camp of A-lister activists in the City of Angeles.
