Swifties Raise Over $100,000 to Aid Kamala Harris Amidst Taylor Swift’s Distance From Politics

Published 08/27/2024, 10:54 PM EDT

Taylor Swift may not be distantly connected with politics, but her impact still extends into that world. The pop star has shown proven results as to how she can massively influence U.S. politics- not just by rallying support for a party but also by encouraging people to vote. However, for the 2024 elections, she has stayed mostly on the sidelines and has not shown any particular stance so far. Still, that does not mean her fans will sit this one out as well.

Swifties have recently banded together to support Kamala Harris and have managed to raise over $100,000 for her and the Democratic Party.

Taylor Swift has forever hinted at her Democratic Party leanings. And therefore, even though she is missing in action this election, her fans have stepped up to endorse the party. A group of Swifties has recently founded an organization called Swifties for Kamala, through which they held a virtual rally. With the support of figures like Carole King, Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, and more, the rally has, so far, raised over $100,000 for the Kamala Harris and Tim Walz campaign.

This news comes right after Taylor Swift’s disappointing absence from the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which many fans were looking forward to. Despite a broad swath of breathless social media speculation, the DNC only saw performances from artists like John Legend, Stevie Wonder, Sheila E., and Maren Morris. While Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party were fortunate enough to get the support of Swifties, those who missed out on it are going all out to get it.

Donald Trump from the Republican Party has recently pulled in some controversy for putting out a fake Taylor Swift endorsement campaign. However, it looks like he is not afraid of the repercussions.

Donald Trump is not bothered by the backlash

Donald Trump, earlier this month, shared some AI-generated images of Swifties wearing "Swifties for Trump" t-shirts on his Truth Social account. The former president also shared a fake image of Taylor Swift that read, "Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump." As soon as fans figured out that this was an AI-generated endorsement, they showered Trump with intense backlash. However, the Republican politician completely denied having anything to do with the fake endorsement.

When asked by Fox Business Network journalist Grady Trimble whether he was scared of being sued by Taylor Swift, Trump nonchalantly said, “I don't know anything about them” and that it was not him who was behind the images. While he may not have been the one to create the images, his spreading of the endorsement shows just how badly political parties are trying to get the pop star on their team.
