K-pop has come a long way since BTS won their first ever MTV VMA award, marking not just a first for them but the award show itself as it cut the ribbon on its K-pop category in 2019. However, as the VMAs 2023 once again celebrate K-pop with one of its leading nominees being Blackpink, the Grammy nominated group that is credited for “paving the way” was nowhere to be seen. Fortunately for fans, Stray Kids took up most of the spotlight as they made their way to their first ever performance at an America award show.

The MTV VMAs 2023 is raining K-pop artists left and right. However, Stray Kids seem to not only have the longer end of the stick but also a stage all for themselves, unlike their seniors, BTS.

Stray Kids make up for BTS’ absence from the MTV VMA 2023

The MTV VMAs, by incorporating a K-pop category, managed to further increase its already massive fanclub. Fans of BTS hold the event especially close to their hearts owing to the fact that it was among the first music award shows from the West to recognize their talent. And making sure to not disappoint their K-pop fans, MTV VMA 2023 has come through with not just one but two K-pop performances. Stray Kids especially seems to have already won over the award show with its presence as fans cannot have enough of them.

The boys all looked spectacular in their award show outfits as they hyped up their performance for the night. While their performance for the night was among the first to be announced, there is little to nothing that fans know about it. Nonetheless, the performance by Stray Kids at the MTV VMA 2023 marks a new milestone for K-pop, one that even BTS could not reach.

BTS, despite already having won on the award show, could not perform until a year later. But as Stray Kids take over one of the biggest nights of music, fans have little to no qualms.
