Praising the pop princess for taking the helm of her artistic ship, Urban highlighted her innovative genius, dubbing her one of the greatest songwriters of the record world. “She’s not just really good, she’s a great songwriter,” he stated.

Urban took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on when the then-teenage sensation opened shows for him on tour in 2009 to add Swift has been a trailblazer from the get-go. He sheepishly admitted he would go on and “sneak out front” to watch her perform, and just by looking at Swift, he could tell “she was playing way into the future already.” Urban revealed that although she had “no production yet,” she still had the era-defining energy rooted in her.

This, however, is not the first time Keith Urban praised Taylor Swift for her musical gray cells.

In a 2023 conversation with PEOPLE, following his attendance for the Eras Tour with Nicole Kidman at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, Urban endorsed Swift, revealing she was at the “top of her game.” Back then, Urban gave Swift the pats for her re-recorded albums, praising her for doing it in a way that her fans get “on board with these versions.” 

After the release of her record-breaking ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ last year, Urban also talked about her “songwriting skills,” calling it “extraordinary” before running out of adjectives. While he has previously cheered her for showing what artistic control truly looks like in a world where the spotlight is unapologetic, Urban’s recent gesture of appreciation for the pop star backs it up like a timeless theory.
