Selena Gomez recently hogged the limelight with her appearance at the 2023 MTV VMAs. The singer made a VMA history along with her collaborator, Rema. The duo’s hit song, ‘Calm Down’, bagged the first-ever VMA for Best Afrobeat. However, mere hours ago, she was again in the spotlight when her most recent 2023 track, ‘Single Soon’, disappeared from streaming services without any explanation. It had led to the widespread notion that streamers potentially snubbed the singer post-VMA.

However, the track is now back again in the singer’s catalog. Nevertheless, there is still no mention of why it vanished in the first place.

Did Selena Gomez just pull off a PR stunt?

The singer-songwriter who has over 200 awards to her name, left fans in the lurch when her ‘Single Soon’ stopped streaming from Apple Music and Spotify, earlier today. Screenshots and queries soon flooded social media with fans questioning the sudden disappearance. The Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat collaborated song, however, has returned to stream again. The hours-long suspension has not yet been supplemented with any explanations. As such, wild guesses are abuzz on possible theories.

A wide section of online social media is debating on a potential ‘PR Stunt’ by the singer. However, loyal fans and rationalists furiously defended the claims. While many highlighted that this was just another way of getting the August released track on the forefront, many pointed to possible technical and legal issues for the same. Moreover, it is a common practice for songs to be taken offline for refinements or enhancements to the audio quality. As such, the taking down of the song may have nothing to do with streamers snubbing the singer or her pulling off a PR stunt.

Furthermore, the singer has widely opened up about her genuineness as an artist. Her most recent comments post the VMA shall lend credibility to her honesty and why she could never do such a ‘PR stunt’.

Here is why the singer may never pull off a ‘PR stunt’

A resplendent red floral attire adorned the ‘Come and Get Me’ singer as she took to the stage of the 2023 MTV VMAs to accept her Best Afrobeat award with Rema. Loud cheers and even Gomez’s bestie, Taylor Swift, putting on an unabated display of appreciation, greeted the win. However, along with those, she also trended on the Internet for one more reason. A clip of the singer reacting to Chris Brown as a nominee for Best R&B quickly went viral. Gomez giving a grinning faux pas to the announcement went viral.

Following her acceptance speech at the VMAs, the former Disney actress took to her social media to fan away the flames. In an Instagram story, she expressed that she would rather “sit still than be dragged for being myself.” In an obvious showcase of her honesty, the singer also added that she would “never be a meme again.” Therefore, it comes to a rational fit that a singer of such maturity and brevity as Gomez would never stoop to disgraceful PR measures.
