The 2023 MTV VMAs are charting ahead towards history. While Taylor Swift looks to etch history as the most decorated VMA artist of all time, her long-time friend, Selena Gomez, just made one. The ‘Come and Get Me’ singer won her first award of the night in a debut category this year. Amidst loud cheers and palpable excitement from Swift, Gomez walked up the stage dressed in red to receive her special, along with her collaborator, Rema.

The song also achieved the milestone of one billion streams on Spotify, making it the first African artist-led track to join the Billions Club on Spotify. Also, the song now will have forever cemented its legacy as the winner of the inaugural Best Afrobeat MVA.
