A platform that Kanye West once wanted to buy has now been shut down. The singer has gone underground since his marriage to his wife Bianca Censori, but he was once all over the news preaching about his political thoughts and freedom of speech. It got him banned from several social media platforms as well. In order to continue with his stance, he was once set to buy the online platform, Parler.

Not all of his plans see the light of day, and this was one of those. Despite that, the website continued to be online. But reports suggest that the website has become unavailable for now. Here is the reason why the platform, which hit headlines once, has been pulled off now.

The website first began in 2018 with the intention of giving the public a platform where they could speak freely. West soon became an interested buyer, even bringing in talks, but it lead nowhere. A Virginia-based media company named Starboard eventually purchased it. According to Forbes, the company has now taken down the website to make some internal changes. The new owners do not believe it can any longer be used for one sect of the political spectrum to post content.

However, CEO Ryan Coyne believes that the website holds a lot of potential and can be used in various ways. The website came into highlight when rioters marched the US Capitol in 2021 and used the platform to post updates on it. Now, Coyne looks to repurpose the site for more than domestic politics.

What happened with Ye’s purchase deal with Parler?

The ‘Gold Digger’ singer had expressed his plan to purchase the platform after being banned from social media. But by November 2022, representatives for the website confirmed that the deal was off. The CEO of its parent company, George Farmer, is married to Candace Johnson. Activists Johnson and West were making news over their shared political opinions, including the White Lives Master T-shirt stunt. This is how the rapper came into considering the idea of the website’s purchase.
