On Hip Hop’s 50th Birthday, Fans Left Furious as Kanye West Is Left Out of the Top 10 List of Greatest Rappers
Hip Hop has served as the playground for the most creatively talented beings. It has seen a revolutionary in Tupac Shakur whose legacy is brilliantly carried by Kendrick Lamar as he writes, “The ghost of Mandela, hope my flows stay propelling“. And it has also seen the rise of a street king in 50 Cents as he set down the rule book of what’s gangsta and what’s not through his fiery rap. But it has only seen an artist who has both the ability to stir a revolution while also boasting about street life only in Kanye West. Therefore, the ignorance of his brilliant contribution by Billboard as Hip Hop celebrates its 50th birthday has earned backlash.
For a rapper with 24 Grammy awards and more Billboard records to testify to his brilliance to not be mentioned in a list of Top 10 Greatest Rappers of All Time is nothing short of blasphemous for his fans.

Billboard’s list did not rob everyone of their due credit, as it mentions Tupac Shakur, Eminem, and Snoop Dogg. But fans were enraged by how it also included the fan titled ‘female Kanye West’, Nicki Minaj, but not the maestro himself.
It is true that the Donda rapper has become a brimming kettle of controversies over the past year. But the mountain of his controversies, no matter how ginormous, pales in comparison to that of his music.
This steal has proved to be very scathing for devoted believers of Ye’s superiority in music. And this is how Billboard has ensued a war with Hip Hop fans on the occasion of its 50th birthday.
Fans call Billboard’s list of the Greatest Rappers of All Time a joke as it fails to mention Kanye West
Billboard, in its attempt to celebrate Hip Hop, seems to have made a joke out of it as fans tear the list apart. While Ye’s absence has been the most prominent reason for the outrage, it is also the unsuitable ratings on legendary artists such as Tupac Shakur, and Eminem, that have led fans to label the list as “trash.”
Some asked if the list is based on the 2010s consensus. But given that Kanye West had already dropped his magnum opus in 2004, which was placed on a pedestal in the ‘GOAT’ category, Billboard’s list is not even successful in identifying the key players of Hip hop a decade ago.

In a class act, many have also silently dropped pictures of Ye holding multiple Grammy awards, as if they were candies to prove their point.
