The music industry has gone all out recently in voting their verdict over who merits the crown of hip-hop amidst the heat of the Kendrick Lamar-Drake debate. While fans found themselves involved in confrontations online, the artists themselves made the fan playlists heavy with their scathing tracks and diss guns. Although the steam has cooled down, the embers of contention persist and simmer with K-Dot and his fan club now in the face of skepticism and criticism from the Drake loyalist, Akademiks.

Akademiks recently sharpened his own tongue in the aftermath of the biggest rap battle of the year, grabbing the foam fingers for Drake instead of Lamar.

Kendrick Lamar and Drake have seemingly concluded their rap battle of the year without any further diss tracks, yet ongoing discussions underline its monumental impact. Despite their apparent resolution, fans and artists continue to engage fervently in the debate, unwilling to let it fade away. Recently, Akademiks streamed a lengthy critique of Lamar and his fans who attended The Pop Out: Ken & Friends on his YouTube channel, King Akademiks, reminding them, “now y’all gotta go do music that has nothing to do with Drake”.

This followed tweets by Ab-Soul about Drake and included a sarcastic congratulations to Lamar and his fans. Akademiks argued that Lamar capitalized on a strategy widely noted in history books of uniting people against a common enemy, labeling Drake as the "white guy still in culture." While acknowledging Drake as the current “greatest rapper in the world”, Akademiks turned the spotlight on Lamar, questioning what lies ahead for him in the rap world now that the dust of the Drake debate has settled.

When Drake and Kendrick Lamar squared off in their recent feud to settle the debate of the year, not only did their fan bases rally but influential artists also found themselves aligning their loyalties. While vocal supporters like Akademiks and Camila Cabello championed Drake, Lamar's supporters took a more subdued approach to expressing their preference. Fivio Foreign recently shared his perspective on Fight Hype, cautiously leaning towards Lamar's side before declaring the debate a draw.

Similarly, Too Short initially viewed Lamar as the "underdog" in the feud. While he stopped short of outrightly endorsing Lamar, his balanced viewpoint hinted at his allegiance to the K-dot camp, despite his initial perceptions. Although not as outspoken as Akademiks in their declarations, both Lamar and Drake have undeniably seized a momentum that shows no signs of waning soon.
