“Not just a specialty album”- Dolly Parton’s 2 Cents on Beyoncé’s ‘Snub’ At the CMAs 2024
Beyoncé, known for her expertise in R&B, pop, and hip-hop, is now kicking down the doors of country music. And her foray into the genre has sparked a lot of discussions in the music world. Earlier this year, the songstress released her album 'Cowboy Carter'. One of its tracks, 'Texas Hold 'Em', made Beyoncé the first Black woman in history to have a No. 1 country song. However, despite having one of the biggest country hits of the year, Beyoncé has been snubbed by the Country Music Association.
Now, Dolly Parton has given her take on Beyoncé's CMA snub and the possible reasons behind the alleged shut-out.

Dolly Parton, the Oscar-winning country singer, recently spoke to Variety about Beyoncé not receiving even one nomination at the CMA. The singer explained that there are too many "wonderful country artists," and the organization could not have left out the ones who have dedicated their entire careers to the genre. "I don’t think it was a matter of shutting out," assured the 78-year-old. She chalked it up to how the "country charts and the country artists were doing," adding, "not just a specialty album."
This explanation, however, is contradicted by the fact that Post Malone received four nominations from the CMA for his album 'F-1 Trillion'. This was his first country album as well. In the CMA’s defense, Parton said, "Post Malone has loved country music his whole life." Fans on X took Parton’s response to be slightly diplomatic. Nonetheless, the 'Rockstar' creator was happy to have been featured on Beyoncé’s album.
Beyoncé, in her first foray into country music, honored the queen of country music, Dolly Parton, throughout her album.

In her record-breaking 'Cowboy Carter' album, Beyoncé did her own rendition of Dolly Parton's hit 1973 single 'Jolene'. The 43-year-old also included Parton in an interlude titled 'Dolly P', where she referred to the legendary artist as "Miss Honey Bey," and another track, 'Tyrant'. Parton, in turn, praised Beyoncé. Right after the album's release, Parton took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the singer's cover.
"Beyoncé is giving that girl some trouble and she deserves it! Love, Dolly P," Parton said in her statement. The 'Backwoods Barbie' singer was also featured as a guest on Post Malone's country music album, 'F-1 Trillion', on a song called 'Have the Heart'. While Parton has given her blessings to the two new entries into the country music world, it seems she trusts the Country Music Association and their decision.
