In 2013, Kanye West released a song titled ‘I Am a God’ which further features him chanting “I am a God” as if it were a hymn to the point that you put his godly writing talent and divine designs together and actually begin to believe him. Until he announces Yeezy internships for $16. But before you point the loaded gun of criticism at Ye, it is important to know that he is only two years old after his divorce from Kim Kardashian. And he is only one year old since changing his Instagram profile to the ‘momager’ Kris Jenner.

The days of Kanye West’s marriage with Kim Kardashian were nothing short of a very rich fairytale. Every milestone was decorated with a lavish bash and stakes worth millions in companies. But despite the opulence, their relationship too was not deprived of the norm of give and take. In exchange for emptying a few halves of his pocket, he learned lessons on how to keep them stacked. But not neatly.

The Kardashians’ mountain of wealth conceals stories of child laborers, overworked staff, and, most importantly, unpaid interns. Under the guise of providing “experience” with their acclaimed brand, their requirements from unpaid interns range from gift-wrapping to other vague chores that do not require an educational degree. At least, Kanye West wants interns with an interest in designing.

The case of Kris Jenner and her daughters hiring workers at a low wage in the best-case scenario and no wage under normal ones is not a rare one. Their latest known to the public comes from 2018, when the now Kardashian Jenner Communication claimed that the errand running in the guise of an unpaid job posting will also provide college credit.

While the post dates back to 2018, it was only last year after she was crowned “tone-deaf” following her comments about women being too lazy that many of these unpaid interns spoke up. For the SKIM owner, it ended in online criticism, but the Yeezy owner found himself in a lawsuit.

It seems that this trend of hiring college students as interns with no money in exchange for “experience” only works smoothly when you are a part of the Kardashian household. Not long after the divorce, the Grammy-winning rapper faced a lawsuit of $1 million by the alleged unpaid staff of his Nebuchadnezzar opera. This was only the first of many, as former employees from his various business firms started filing lawsuits.

From teachers of the Donda Academy to Yeezy workers, all took matters to court. However, not everything has ended badly for Ye, who, with his team of A-class lawyers, has managed to win several of these lawsuits filed by his unpaid employees. Now, as he himself has brought the standard to a mere $16, hopefully, he will pay as promised.
