Kendrick Lamar Pulls off a Taylor Swift in Compton California With His ‘Not Like Us’ Music Video, Here’s How

Kendrick Lamar is currently making headlines in the hip-hop world after winning the biggest rap showdown in decades with Drake. The rapper recently released his music video for 'Not Like Us' to celebrate the West Coast and make some final disses at Drake. Besides dropping dozens of Easter eggs referencing the popular beef, the music video, released on July 4th, also stood out for its unique filming locations in California.

This move allowed Lamar to mimic Taylor Swift and create an impact similar to that of her Eras Tour mere days after releasing the video.

Kendrick Lamar filmed his 'Not Like Us' music video in his hometown of Compton, California. During the shoot, the rapper, along with Mustard, chose several local locations as their backdrop, including a burger joint, Tam's Burgers. According to the manager of Tam's Burgers' statement to TMZ, ever since the music video hit the waves, fans have been flooding Tam's Burgers, ordering Lamar's favorite, the bacon cheeseburger. This has led Lamar to pull a Taylor Swift in Compton, boosting the burger business's economy by 30-40 percent within less than a week.

The comparison with Taylor Swift fits perfectly, given that the pop star has been bringing an economic shower everywhere she has stepped with her Eras Tour. Whether it was injecting approximately $5 billion into the US economy or giving the European economy a boost of €1 billion, i.e., $1.09 billion, the Eras Tour has been a blessing for more than just Swifties. Whether or not Lamar took inspiration from Swift for the economic boost, he once gave the pop star one of her most “inspiring experiences” in life.

Lamar, despite being a close friend to Swift's supposed nemesis, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has always maintained an amicable bond with the pop star. This was especially highlighted during the re-recording of ‘Bad Blood’.

Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift collaborated on the track ‘Bad Blood’ from the songstress’s ‘1989’ album. As the 34-year-old decided to re-record her album, she felt grateful to have Lamar on board for the deluxe edition. In a social media post from 2023, Swift shared that watching the Pulitzer winner working on the ‘Bad Blood’ remix “was one of the most inspiring experiences of my (her) life.”

Swift thanked Lamar for “elevating the song” and for treating everyone around him well. Ending her note, the pop star gave some credit for her Eras Tour to the rapper, saying every time the crowd on the Eras Tour would chant his line from the song, it would bring a smile to her face. Nonetheless, with the way Lamar is moving, defeating one of the biggest rap icons and now creating an economic boost, he might just be on his way to creating an Eras Tour-like impact real soon.
