Kanye West has had quite a few beefs in the industry over the years. Luckily, he has also earned some loyal supporters along the way. One of them is Ty Dolla $ign who has opened his doors again to re-establish himself after a long hiatus. ‘Vultures’ gave a taste of classic Yeezy anchored by $ign’s hooks and songwriting abilities, making it nothing short of a masterpiece collaboration. Though $ign contributed his soulful vocals and melodic hooks to the album, that was not the only reason why Ye chose to team up with him.

Ye, recently, broke down the real reasons for tapping $ign for ‘Vultures,’ which go beyond just the skills of the ‘One Woman’ singer.

During a recent sit-down with Big Boy TV, Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign caught up to chat about all things ‘Vultures’ and beyond. Ye revealed that the reason he chose to team up with $ign was that the ‘Paranoid’ rapper had his back when “a million people told him to not” to. He even drew a comparison between $ign and another longtime collaborator, producer Mike Dean, pointing out that the ‘Free TC ‘ artist can even inject words into a “murmur“. Ye added, “he can fix all the notes on it; he can bring the drums, the music“.

The concept for the duo and the album sprang to life when the two crossed paths in a studio during their time in Japan. $ign floated the idea to Ye, asking if he would be down to executive produce his next album, and Ye was totally on board. Their first track together after that was the Band of Thieves-sampling ‘Burn’, which got them thinking they could nail it if they teamed up for a full album. That said, like any other top-notch collaboration, this one faced its fair share of disagreements during the creative process, too.

The release of ‘Vultures’ has been mired in controversy from the start. From accusations of antisemitism to the abundance of explicit language, the album has faced its fair share of criticism. In fact, the album has 111 sexual references and around 200 other cuss words. And Kanye West took some objections to it. In the Big Boy TV talk, the ‘Graduation’ creator shared that he raised concerns with Ty Dolla $ign about the cuss words “a bunch of times“.

$ign, however, shook his head in disagreement, insisting on not releasing the album completely “clean“. This also raised some questions about Ye’s faith in God and his previous projects like ‘Jesus is King’ during the interview. In response, Ye stated that simply praying to God without putting in the work achieves nothing. He acknowledged having his own “issues” and emphasized that this time, he needed to incorporate his own experiences into the album.
