Kanye West Risked Losing Billions With the Thought of a 30-Day Break From Adidas
What was once a lucrative collaboration, turned into a drama llama lately. The partnership between Kanye West and Adidas has raked in billions for both parties. Even after the highly public fallout between the two, the reasons for which are well known, they continued to print millions on the Yeezy collections. However, it now appears that there may have been more than just the slew of controversies in 2022 that affected the partnership between the world’s second-largest sports brand and the man who is a brand himself.
Kanye West found himself stuck in a web of some seriously out-there and hard-to-stomach restrictions under his deal with Adidas.

After producing hundreds of shoe styles and generating billions of dollars together, Adidas terminated its nearly decade-old deal with Kanye West on the grounds of non-compliance with the moral clause in their contract. Months after their fallout, some of the other clauses in Ye’s contracts with Adidas surfaced on the web. Allegedly, Kanye West was not allowed to take a 30-day consecutive break to tend to his mental health and well-being, as reported by Fast Company.
This could have also cost Ye a hefty chunk of his shares and could have flown billions of dollars out of his pocket. As per a statement by Alexandra Roberts, professor of law and media at Northeastern University School of Law, “Adidas was defining its morals clause in part based upon what they already knew about Ye“, reported by the same publication. Besides the Adidas fallout, the ‘Donda’ rapper encountered another substantial partnership setback with his Yeezy brand within the same year.
Ye’s Yeezy Gap collaboration called it quits in 2022, following ongoing arguments between the involved parties. However, there have been recent signs suggesting a revival of the collaboration.

Kanye West always had Gap on his radar, given his special history with the company. Not only did he work at Gap as a teenager, but he was also impressed by the brand’s style. In 2020, the two brands announced an extension of their collaboration for 10 more years, aiming to generate a billion in revenue annually. However, despite promising beginnings, the collaboration could not withstand the same issues that led to Adidas cutting ties with the rap icon. Months later, Ye unleashed some of the Yeezy Gap collections.
Last week, the Donda Times shared the news of Kanye West “selling YZY GAP items for $20” on his official Yeezy website. Although there could have been a possibility that this move was an attempt to sell leftover Yeezy Gap items from the inventory. Nevertheless, as per reports, Ye is planning to launch something new fashion-wise, so maybe this is finally gonna bury the hatchet between Gap, Adidas, and Yeezy.
