Kanye West Pays Sweet Tribute to Late Mother, Restores Chicago Home From Childhood
Kanye West may have achieved millionaire status but is still attached to his humble roots. The ‘Famous’ hitmaker is considered one of the biggest rappers in the world today, having worked his way up in the industry. But he gave much of his credit to his mother Donda West, for encouraging his talent and ability to be vocal. She may not be around anymore, but her son made her memories eternal.
Fans have often heard the word ‘Donda’ when it comes to Ye. Whether it was through his office, school, or his album, West made sure to honor his mother. And now he has added a property as well to the list by renovating the home they lived in.

The Chicago house of the 46-year-old singer is a representation of his early life with his mother Donda West. She was an English teacher, which would explain Ye’s vast vocabulary heard in his songs. Although she enjoyed the success of her son’s career, she died of a heart attack after surgery. It affected the rapper severely. He apparently brought back the home in 2020 for $225,000 after attaining his billionaire status. An additional $60,000 was estimated to be spent on repairs. According to the DailyMail, the gate has the initials ‘DH’ standing for Donda’s House.
Apparently, the house was set to be demolished, but Ye’s team secured it. It now has a light greyish blue paint, with wooden staircases and surveillance cameras installed. He grew up in a 1,600 sq. ft home with 3 bedrooms with his mother. The property has been affixed with two flags: one of Haiti and one of America.
The significance of his home could be seen through the years, featuring in videos and different stages of his life.

A look back at the Chicago House’s impact on Ye
The house appeared in Kanye West’s 2011 online feature, ‘Watch the Throne’, as he took viewers around the house with Jay-Z. He also visited the place with his then-wife Kim Kardashian and their daughter in the 2018 edition of Keep Up With The Kardashians. The rapper even made a mini replica of the home during his Donda event back in 2011.
Fans can see glimpses of his special moments with his mother in the house even in his Jeen Yuhs documentary. Today, the home remains mostly vacant, although a friend visits regularly to keep a check. This is one of the few properties that Ye has maintained, considering how the rest of them continue to ruin.
