In a wildfire-inducing song ‘SKITZO’ on his latest album ‘Utopia’, Travis Scott writes, “I am loyal, b*tch, I got Ye over Biden.” And while the other lyrics in the song titled ‘SKITZO,’ short for ‘schizophrenia,’ are definitely questionable, the way his entire album has unfolded to be another limb of a Kanye West album, this one is not. Something seems to be missing in fans’ perspective.

After a five-year-long hiatus following his ‘Astroworld’ album in 2018, for Kanye West’s fans, Scott’s album stayed true to its name as it brought to them utopia in the only way they know it: through Ye’s music. Production credits for four songs on the album, namely, ‘Thank God’, ‘God’s Country’, ‘Telekinesis’, ‘Delresto’ include Ye. Despite being fed full-course musical meals, fans cannot help but feel there is something fishy.

Kanye West holds the production credits of four tracks, but the featured artist list boasts of Beyoncé and Bon Iver. And despite the album hitting a bit too close to home for Ye’s ‘Yeezus’ album enthusiasts, Kanye West is not mentioned as a featured artist.

Ye’s production credits on the above four songs of ‘Utopia’ are not his alone. The credit lineup is more stacked than an award show red carpet as they also feature Beyoncé, Jahaan Sweet, Allen Rittter, and more.

It is unclear if the ‘Donda’ rapper wished to work behind the scenes or if it was Travis Scott’s decision. Whatever the case, fans find it unsettling and this has made way for interesting reactions.

Fans react to Kanye West having only production rights on four Utopia songs

It all started as an observation. Fans pointed out how Kanye West has influenced Travis Scott and that he is really the Grammy-winning rapper’s prodigy. But much like most things on Twitter, it took a turn for the worst as subtle shading under the guise of “crazy how Ye has inspired the entire album but does not have a feature” turned into outright shaming the rapper.

One fan questioned how Ye does not have even production credits for ‘Circus Maximus’ where the drums seem to be a bit too similar to West’s ‘Black Skinhead’. But fans forget that Travis Scott is among the most popular graduates of Ye’s teachings, which include ample techniques about sampling. And if one goes in-depth, the drums on ‘Circus Maximus’ are not borrowed from ‘Black Skinhead’ but are instead an interpolation.

From the looks of it, even if Travis Scott wins the album of the year for ‘Utopia’, fans will not ignore the fact that it used one too many notes from Ye’s album while reducing his credits to one or two.
