In the blinding lights of the music industry, the two exceptionally talented giants: Taylor Swift and Kanye West once collided in a feud that would become legendary. When the crowd cheered for Swift at the 2009 MTV VMAs as she began her acceptance speech, the stage was suddenly hijacked by West who wanted to declare that Beyoncé should have won instead. This awkward moment between the artists would be remembered for decades to come.

Now 14 years later, the ‘Love Story’ singer reigned supreme at the VMAs once again by bagging no less than 9 awards! Meanwhile, the ‘Donda’ rapper was nowhere to be seen, either on stage or in the audience. For Swifties, it was a clear indication of their favorite singer’s victory over the latter. Regardless of how eventful the night was, the internet could not resist reminiscing about the old feud that will forever be synonymous with the awards.

Although the VMAs have seen various other legendary clashes like the one between Nirvana and Guns N’ Roses, Swift and West’s clash received unparalleled attention.  Because the media could not get enough of the drama, and fans took sides passionately. After all, nothing has divided fans and fellow celebrities like the ‘Red’ and ‘Graduation’ singers’ tussle ever since.  

Today, both artists continue to release chart-topping albums but the feud lingers in the background. Occasionally it resurfaces through veiled lyrics and cryptic interviews. And sometimes through fans going at it in the comments section of an X post.

The 2023 VMAs gave Taylor Swift’s fans a lot to celebrate. From back-to-back victories to dancing along to Shakira, the 33-year-old gave viewers plenty to remember her by. But for those who wanted to rub salt in Ye’s fans’ wounds, this also posed the perfect opportunity to bring down the father of four on X. However, his fans also responded in kind to the ensuing battle of words that the post brought with it.

Meanwhile, the majority of the 46-year-old’s fans felt that he was the one who made her famous in the first place on that night.

On the other hand, some netizens thought that the fiasco should be put to rest by now. Others marveled at how quickly time had passed since it all began.

Evidently, this debate is bound to go on considering how riled up the music moguls’ fans still are. Hopefully, one day when the artists finally make peace, so will their followers.
