Just now, Nelly and NLE Choppa hit the pink carpet of the VMAs for the first time, performing the reimagined version of Nelly’s ‘Hot in Here.’ The performance surely gave a very millennial nostalgic feeling for all the fans out there. With Nelly performing without a shirt on and just a piece of jewelry, the air was all hot, just like the song.

Released as the first single from his album, ‘Nellyville’ in 2002, it even topped on Billboard Hot 100. Not only this, it even helped the rapper bag a Grammy for Best Male Rap Solo Performance. The song’s nostalgia was brought back by Choppa’s last month by re-creating this hot melody that graced the VMAs today.

The Memphis rapper released the video of this re-imagined version back last month, where Choppa was all dressed up like Nelly. The song sampled a part of Nelly’s iconic hit along with his replicating chorus. He even paid a tribute to Nelly with a woman having ‘NLEVILLE’ written on the back of her.

While the video received mixed reactions, it is clear that the performance did not, as it was a big slay and a perfect kick-start to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop. With their performance, it is safe to say that the VMAs are going to be a nostalgia fest for all the hip-hop enthusiasts out there.
