For years now, the world has compared Taylor Swift to the likes of some great historical poets. While her fans have always thought it to be true, it looks like they may have been right after all. The pop sensation might be one of the greatest lyricists of the time. However, her skill of writing epic lines may have been passed down through generations from the renowned American poet Emily Dickinson.

In a recent turn of events, it was revealed that there was a connection between the poet and the pop sensation. However, it was the how that had everyone a little lost.

According to reports from TODAY, it was revealed that the genealogy company Ancestry found out that Taylor Swift and Emily Dickinson were from the same family tree. Moreover, the two talented women were sixth cousins, who had been three times removed. Both descended from a “17th century English immigrant” who was an “early settler of Windsor.”

Ancestry also revealed that Swift’s ancestors had kept to Connecticut for six generations. However, after that, the family decided to settle down in northwestern Pennsylvania. That was when the Dickinson line merged with the Swift family line. While the revelation might have come as quite a surprise to most, some fans believe that the 34-year-old already knew about the connection years ago.

Just a couple of years ago, in 2022, Taylor Swift received the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International. During her speech, the singer had said, “If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre.” While at the time it just seemed like a passing statement, the recent familial discovery has Swifties wondering what else they did not notice.

Apart from mentioning Dickinson in her thank-you speech, Swift has also left fans speculating whether her 9th studio album, ‘evermore’ could be a reference to the 19th-century poet’s poem, ‘One Sister Have I in Our House’, all because of one word, “forevermore.” While it might just be a coincidence, there is no saying what other secrets the 34-year-old has kept close to her chest. However, with her packed schedule because of The Eras Tour, fans may have to wait a little longer for the singer’s confirmation.
