“Greatest boy bands of all time”- Charlamagne Tha God Pays His Last Tribute to Liam Payne Hailing Praises to One Direction
It has been over a decade since Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and the late Liam Payne became One Direction. Little did anyone know back then that this group of five young boys would rise to become the biggest boy band in the history of pop music. Their hype was largely fueled by a dedicated fanbase- and it would be just plain shortsighted to claim it was only made up of young teen girls.
The fanbase, which, by the way, is still very much alive, is composed of all kinds of music lovers, and 46-year-old Charlamagne tha God’s affection for this crew is proof of their lasting footprint in pop culture.

Charlamagne tha God and Andrew Schulz recently sat down to chat about One Direction and their favorite tracks from the band on The Brilliant Idiots podcast. Charlamagne began by paying his respects to Liam Payne, saying, “Rest in peace, man, to Liam.” The duo then gave a big “shoutout” to the entire boy band and their lasting legacy in the music industry. The radio host shared that his favorite 1D track is 'Best Song Ever,' and he even broke into a little singing of the song. “That is a slap,” he exclaimed after crooning a few lines.
Meanwhile, Andrew Schulz declared 'Steal My Girl' as the greatest One Direction song of all time. To further prove how much of a devoted Directioner Charlamagne is, he claimed the band is "one of the greatest boy bands of all time," but not before he snapped at one of his crew members who did not know any One Direction songs, calling them an “uncultured piece of ***ne”. Nonetheless, this is not the first time Charlamagne has spoken about Liam Payne or shared his favorite One Direction track.
Right after the tragic passing of the One Direction member, Charlamagne opened up about the boy band during his radio show.

On October 18, just two days after Liam Payne’s untimely death that got the entire industry mourning, Charlamagne tha God hosted an episode of The Breakfast Club with Jess Hilarious and DJ Envy. When Hilarious brought up the news about Payne, DJ Envy seemed completely in the dark about One Direction and their music. To help him out, both Hilarious and Charlamagne went all in, vibing to their favorite One Direction tracks. While Hilarious crooned along to 'What Makes You Beautiful,' Charlamagne lit up as soon as 'Best Song Ever' started playing.
Charlamagne explained that the reason 'Best Song Ever' holds a special place in his heart is that it was covered by the children's music group, Kidz Bop, and his kids used to play it on repeat. He reiterated, "Best Song Ever slaps.” Taking into account his obsession with the 1D track and his heartfelt sadness over Payne's passing in the episode, it is safe to say that Charlamagne is a true One Direction fan.
