4 Days After Dropping ‘The Grudge’, Olivia Rodrigo Set to Take Over Stage at Taylor Swift’s Could Be Historic VMA Night
Olivia Rodrigo may have caught the world’s attention when she first jumped onto the scene with Disney back in the late 2010s. But since her first debut single, ‘Drivers License’ in 2021, the 21-year-old quickly garnered a huge fan following. However, with the fame, came the conspiracies. After Rodrigo’s last hit, ‘vampire,’ many of the artist’s fans seemed to think that the song hinted at a fallout between the singer and her former favorite, Taylor Swift. And it looks like the singer may have added fuel to the fire with her latest ‘The Grudge.’
While Olivia Rodrigo tried to shut down the rumors last month, it does not seem like they ended. But with the MTV VMAs just days away and looming performances, the award show might just be the best one of the year.

The VMAs this year will be filled with a lot of big names, as always, but this year MTV recently announced their lineup for the star-studded event. But that was not all. Rodrigo was one among a long list of names for the night’s entertainment. The night will feature performances from artists like Lil Wayne, Doja Cat, Fall Out Boy, Metro Boomin, and many more. Whether Taylor Swift will break Beyoncé’s record of the most held awards, one thing is for sure: the night will be full of mesmerizing performances.
As for Rodrigo, this will be the singer’s comeback to the stage following her breakout performance from two years ago. And though spirits may be high, fans also feel a bit of tension in the air as rumors of a fallout between Rodrigo and the fourteen-time VMA winner, Taylor Swift, swirl out of control. It may be a huge night for the ‘good 4 you’ singer, but it could also be another historic night for the ‘Speak Now’ artist, as she is once again the most nominated artist of the night.
While fans of Olivia Rodrigo were extremely excited that the singer would be performing at the 2023 VMAs, the release of her latest album, ‘Guts’, may have just fanned the flames higher.
Olivia Rodrigo’s rumored fallout with Taylor Swift
What began back in 2021 has now spiraled into something much bigger. Following the copyright infringement issue after the success of ‘Déjà vu’, Olivia Rodrigo ended up not only giving credit to Taylor Swift in the song but also paying her a huge part of the song’s royalties. But this came only after Swift’s team was quick to notice the interpolation of the ‘Eras Tour’ artist’s song, ‘Cruel Summer’.

But after Olivia Rodrigo’s song ‘vampire’ came out in June, everyone quickly jumped to the conclusion that the song was written about Taylor Swift. And now it has happened again. The latest song, ‘The Grudge’, talked about a relationship that turned bad and admiration that would never fade. This obviously led a lot of listeners to believe that she was talking about Taylor Swift, as it is a known fact that Rodrigo has been a Swiftie since day one.

While Olivia Rodrigo has stayed mum on the topic and situation after the release of her song, the artist did try to clear things up a while ago when she said that she does not want to tie her songs down to one person or feeling. However, fans may never know what is really going on behind the scenes, but both Rodrigo and Swift have a night to look up to on September 12th at the VMAs.
