Ye, aka Kanye West, made his comeback to the music industry earlier this year with the release of ‘Vultures.’ Last month, he followed up with the second volume of his 2024 album. However, apart from a few standout tracks, the album largely received a lukewarm reception, leading critics to question whether Ye’s artistic brilliance has dimmed over the years. Nonetheless, regardless of the album’s reception, Ye has indeed made a successful comeback, and the revival of the Aggies’ tradition is a big proof of that.

The students of Texas A&M University, aka the Aggies, have recently honored Ye again, after ignoring him for two years.

Ye’s track, ‘POWER,’ from his album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy,’ has been the entrance theme of the Texas A&M football team for about a decade. However, following the antisemitic controversies surrounding the rapper, for which he had to take a hiatus from the industry, the Aggies stopped featuring the track in 2022. After two years of discontinuing their tradition, Texas A&M once again brought back the Ye track to their ceremony this year. 

Following Ye’s controversial episode a few years back, the team chose to rely on sound effects and the band’s drumline to provide the soundtrack of the entrance theme. However, this Saturday, as the No. 20 Texas A&M football team made their entrance to kick off the season against the Fighting Irish, the 2010 hit ‘POWER’ reverberated through the stadium- what better sign of Ye’s resurgence could there be? Nonetheless, despite the toll his controversies have taken on him, the rapper appears to have no regrets.

Ye managed to find a silver lining even in the storm of repercussions that followed his unfiltered commentary on his divisive political views.

In 2022, Ye sat down for an interview with Candace Owens during the same year he took a hiatus, and entities like Adidas and even Texas A&M, for that matter, boycotted him. Reflecting on that period, Ye mentioned he was "happy" with people withdrawing their support, especially brands. He explained, "I have this freedom from beholding to these brands that say we only rock with you under these conditions".

Ye had previously claimed he felt exploited by Adidas and even accused the sportswear giant of trying to "destroy" him in a fiery Instagram rant. While he may not have regained everything he lost due to his controversies, he has certainly won back the support of Texas A&M.
