Every year, people from all across the world celebrate World Mental Health Day to help raise awareness about how it is acceptable to go through challenges mentally. From common people to A-lister celebrities, people from every corner stand together on the 10th of October to embrace the day. This stems from the fact that these challenges do not make distinctions and touch people from all walks of life. As the world united to mark the 2023 celebrations, an old video of Kanye West talking about mental health resurfaced on the Internet.
West appeared in David Letterman’s talk show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, in the year 2019. In this interview, the rapper touched on various subjects, including the loss of his mother, self-centered lyricism, and mental health struggles. When Letterman inquired about the mechanism that has been “taking a break” in West’s brain, the ‘Graduation’ creator opened up about his approach to mental health concerns. The singer addressed how people were being “bullied by the media,” leading to group thought and making people “crazy.”

From talking about his “ramped up” state to explaining the importance of having an open conversation regarding such subjects, West made the interview truly enlightening. The conversation then swiftly took a turn towards the pharmaceutical industry, where West expressed his apprehensiveness towards medications. The Grammy winning-singer also revealed that he never took any medication for his bipolar diagnosis as he felt it could hamper his creative process.
Four years later, the resurfaced clip from the Letterman show generated a lot of buzz among the fans.
Fans reacting to the resurfaced video of Kanye West from 2019
West is a personality who has always been very vocal about his mental health struggles, despite the stigma and misconceptions attached to them. The ‘Donda’ rapper even had to hospitalize himself owing to sleep deprivation and was on a psychiatric hold in the year 2016. Apart from that, the 46-year-old also spoke about his bipolar disorder in the past, during his appearance in Jimmy Kimmel Live!. This was something that even his ex-wife Kim Kardashian talked about in one of her Instagram stories from the year 2020.

Netizens even expressed their own grievances and said how difficult it is to tackle mental health issues. Especially when people constantly gaslight each other.
It dasn't help when people around you gaslight you and keep telling you
that you'r crazy, that 's not helping at all .— Rose Guldager (@GMGr233) October 11, 2023
