Every One Direction Member and What Are They Doing Now
Formed almost two decades ago in the bustling heart of London, One Direction composed of the fab five—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik—once took the world by storm. But in 2016, they traded in their mic for an indefinite hiatus. While the music scene has seen its fair share of boy band breakups, nothing quite compares to the heartache of losing these five. But instead of fading into obscurity, these legends have each found their own way to shine in the spotlight, proving that even though the iconic group is no more, their star power is still very much alive.
Now, over a decade since they said goodbye, let us dive into the fabulous lives of these solo superstars and see what they have been up to lately.
Harry Styles: A Style God

Harry Styles has always been the heartthrob of One Direction, adored for those swoon-worthy green eyes, signature brown curls, and an unforgettable sense of style. But even after 1D, he has not missed a beat! With three solo albums and two world tours under his belt, he is still the playlist regular. But here is the chic twist, Styles has been dominating the style radar, too.
The ‘Watermelon Sugar’ sensation has been making waves in the fashion world, and he is not just dipping his toes—he is diving in headfirst. He was just spotted looking effortlessly cool in a navy jumper at the Valentino after-party during Paris Fashion Week and right before Styles made jaws drop at the Valentino Pavillon des Folies Show, rocking an orange jumper paired with a blue frilly shirt.
Styles' surprise front-row appearance at the S.S. Daley show during London Fashion Week was all the more iconic. And his back-to-back pull at fashion’s hottest events proves he is now a full-fledged fashion force of nature.
Niall Horan: Nailing The Tours
Niall Horan has not slowed down because One Direction is on pause. In fact, he has been busier than ever. Back in August, he took to Instagram to announce that he is dropping not one, but two live albums from his ongoing ‘The Show: Live on Tour.’ First up, ‘The Show: Live from Madison Square Garden’ dropped on August 30, packed with 10 songs from his two-night show.
Then, just a week later on September 6, he gave fans another gem: ‘The Show: Live On Tour,’ featuring 10 more tracks from his epic performances in cities like Melbourne, Milan, Tampa, Tokyo, London, and even Lodz, Poland. If all that was not enough to get the Directioners screaming, Horan caused a mini meltdown when he joined Harry Styles on stage in Manchester during the latter’s August concert.
The duo gave fans the ultimate throwback, performing their 2014 hit ‘Stockholm Syndrome’. So, while Styles is out there slaying the fashion game post-One Direction, Horan is busy dropping albums and throwing mini 1D reunions. What more could fans ask for?
Louis Tomlinson: Still the Mastermind
When One Direction hit that indefinite hiatus, the heartbreak was real—but who knew it would pave the way for these guys to shine even brighter solo? Louis Tomlinson, like the rest of them, was packed with potential but took his sweet time before dropping a full project. His songwriting chops have been legendary since the 1D days. However, despite a few stumbles, once he went solo, the rise was nothing short of epic.
Tomlinson’s sophomore album, ‘Faith in the Future,’ dropped in 2022, and for the past couple of years, he has been balancing music with his fashion line, 28, proving he has got both beats and threads down. Tomlinson is now gearing up for an Asia takeover, reminding fans of Ye’s recent tour domination. With Lollapalooza India on the horizon, he is about to treat his Indian fans to a musical wave of epic proportions. And the best part? His 2025 musical journey is already locked and loaded.
Liam Payne: From a Member to a Maker
Just like his fellow One Direction alums, Liam Payne is still deeply rooted in music, and right now, he is making major moves in the streaming world. In August, Netflix announced Payne would join Nicole Scherzinger and Kelly Rowland as a mentor and judge on Building the Band, an upcoming unscripted series where the next big pop group will be formed. With Payne from One Direction, Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls, and Rowland from Destiny’s Child, these hitmakers will bring serious star power and expertise to the competition.
Payne has already been part of a boy band that took over the world, but now he is helping shape the next big thing. Who knows? Maybe he will even be behind the rise of One Direction 2.0, which has fans all screaming again.
Zayn Malik: The Man of the Year
Even though One Direction hit the pause button, Zayn Malik was always on the move until his little creative nap. But now he is back in action, and boy did he make an entrance. Earlier this year, Malik hijacked Jimmy Fallon’s show to drop the news of his fourth studio album, ‘Room Under The Stairs’, and fans are still reeling from the surprise. But little did fans know that his entry was to define the entire year.

Malik hijacked the Fallon party a second time recently to announce his Stairway To The Sky Tour, set to begin in late 2024. The tour will hit 11 venues, starting in San Francisco on October 23, and making stops in Las Vegas, LA, Washington, and New York. The UK leg begins in Edinburgh on November 20, hitting Leeds, Manchester, and London, and wrapping up with a hometown show in Wolverhampton on November 29.
Fans are already scrambling for tickets on Ticketmaster to witness the ‘Pillowtalk’ singer headlining his first-ever solo tour. So, if anyone is still missing One Direction, this is testament enough that they are all still out there, just killing it in every direction!
