Eras Tour Fever Hits Indianapolis: Mayor Joe Hogsett Makes a Historic Declaration in Taylor Swift’s Tribute
After two years of worldwide success, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has achieved a reputation for longevity and cultural impact comparable to classic Shakespearean plays. The tour's legacy is backed by impressive statistics: record-breaking attendance numbers, boosts to local economies, academic discussions inspired by her influence, and a cultural fascination with the Taylor Swift effect. Although the tour nears an end, fans are seizing the final opportunities to experience the Eras energy, recently even prompting Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett to make a historic declaration in her honor.
The Taylor Swift effect usually has people running laps, but this one is unlike anything fans have seen before.

After making New Orleans dance to her beats, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is ready to shake it off in Indianapolis from November 1-3. But first, the city is pulling out all the stops. Joe Hogsett, the mayor of Indianapolis, could not be more thrilled to have the biggest popstar grace the town, and two days before she takes center stage at Lucas Oil Stadium, he took to X to proclaim the first weekend of November as “Taylor Swift Weekend.”
In the proclamation, Hogsett mentioned that the Eras Tour is expected to churn a “nine-figure economic impact” on their city. The Mayor cited that an estimated 4.35 million Swifties attended the tour alone in 2023 to stress the influence, contrasting it with the economic investment Super Bowl generates in their respective host cities. While the New Orleans shows raked in over $500,000 million for the metro area, Hogsett’s announcement implies Indianapolis will double that number.
To make the proclamation extra Swift-coded, Hogsett hid a “Welcome to Indianapolis” message in capital letters like Easter eggs. Though historic, the move echoes another city’s similar tribute.

In the wake of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in July this year, the German town of Gelsenkirchen underwent a temporary transformation into ‘Swiftkirchen.’ The move was initiated by Aleshanee Westhoff’s petition and was approved by Mayor Karin Welge, highlighting Germany’s enthusiasm for welcoming Swift to their country and cities. However, that was not all Gelsenkirchen planned for Swift.
Mayor Welge orchestrated a full-blown Swift-themed makeover for the city with a host of surprises and tributes awaiting the tails of Swifties. The town's efforts included new signage, a Taylor Swift tram run by local transit, and a Taylor Town event with karaoke, tattoo booths, and a swap market. With Indianapolis joining in, Swift Cities has got to be the trend of the decade.
