Elizabeth Taylor’s Son Sees a Reflection of His Mother’s “spirit” in Taylor Swift for This One Reason
It is hard to believe that it has been 13 years since Elizabeth Taylor passed away. Back in her time, when many people were too frightened even to touch someone with AIDS, she made the rounds at hospice after hospice, championing the idea that what people really needed was love. Taylor was also a strong advocate for LGBTQ rights and believed that without their community, Hollywood would not be the same. Now, her son is comparing his legendary mom to today’s superstar, Taylor Swift.
The 69-year-old pointed out that one bold move by Taylor Swift in 2024 made him see the same “spirit” in her that he loved in his mother.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Christopher Wilding, son to Elizabeth Taylor and Michael Wilding, shared stories about his mom from his own perspective and revealed some surprising insights into the life of one of the greatest female screen legends. When asked if any celebrities remind him of his mother, he immediately mentioned Taylor Swift. This connection came from Swift’s popular Instagram post endorsing Kamala Harris right after the presidential debate.
Wilding especially liked how Swift signed off her message as “Childless Cat Lady.” “That reminds me of the same spirit my mom had,” said he. The “Childless Cat Lady” remark was a playful jab at Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, who in 2021 had called some Democrats "a bunch of childless cat ladies." Even Swift’s close friend, Selena Gomez, could not resist taking a shot at that comment earlier this month.

Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter shared a clip from the Emmys where Selena Gomez was seen playfully poking fun at her co-hosts, Steve Martin and Martin Short. "What an honor it was for me to work with two guys who are this far away from being childless cat ladies,” said the 'Who Says' singer. This witty comment came while presenting the first award of the night, and their banter had the audience in stitches.
Gomez's joke referred to Taylor Swift's well-known love for her three cats which earned her the “cat lady” label in the first place. Even right-wing supporters like Elon Musk have used this nickname for Taylor Swift while throwing shade at the ‘Cruel Summer’ artist. He wrote on X, "I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life,” right after Swift made her political endorsement. Nonetheless, it is safe to say that years from now, Taylor Swift could be viewed as one of the most iconic figures in pop culture, much like Elizabeth Taylor was in her time.
