The latest one in a topic is AI’s music-generating capacity has brought out confused and shocked reactions along with some concerns. After weeks of the ongoing activity, one of the singers has voiced his opinion on it.
Being able to copy and recreate something quickly is certainly the work of a very powerful and modern tool. But with that comes issues of copyright infringement, deep faking, and even the risk of lowering a real human’s work value. In an attempt to deal with this issue, the rapper along with companies are taking a step to curb this issue.
Why does Drake not want AI to use his voice or content?

AI technology is still in its infant stage, but experimentation has already proved its power. But it comes with one major problem, which is intellectual property. Drake recently took to social media forwarding an AI-made video with his voice and Ice Spice’s song ‘Munch.’ “This is the final straw AI”, he wrote in the caption. He also has the backing of Universal Music Group, which is acting on the issue.
In an attempt to stop copyright infringement, it has asked streaming platforms to take down and not upload AI creations without a permit. For a musician, it’s his songs and voice that are most important, and using them without permission or compensation is similar to stealing their intellectual property. UMG is hoping for cooperation from streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple to disallow such AI creations.

Now, there were speculations about Drake having an issue with Ice Spice. But regardless of the truth, the copyright issue is an important one.
How does AI make music without the artist’s permission?
AI and music enthusiasts have access to creating their own mix through apps. They simply have to put in the musician’s voice and add lyrics and a tone to it. The end result gives Drake singing ‘Munch.’ There have multiple such videos. Personalities like Bu Thiam of Columbia Records welcome the idea of AI stating that it is too late to stop it completely now.
