Among the many curveballs that 2024 had to offer from Kim Kardashian attending a wedding in India to Ye making a musical comeback, nothing quite hit like Kendrick Lamar rising from the ashes to prove that he is Drake's biggest hater. To make matters even worse for the 'God's Plan' singer, the rap industry decided to take sides, and as everyone from A$AP Rocky to Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, made their stance clear, the scale definitely proved to be heavier on one side.

While in 2024, Ye chose to be on Lamar's side as he released a remixed version of 'Like That', fans dug deeper into the archives to point out the change in his opinion of Drake.

Long before the beef, Ye praised Drake

As Ye dropped his remix, picking sides with Kendrick Lamar, many were of the opinion that the rapper had no business in the beef. However, as almost the entirety of the industry started taking jabs, it became clear that the rules of participation were murky, to say the least. With the dust having settled comparatively on the rap battle, fans found a 2022 video of Ye's interview with Candace Owens stating, "Drake is the best rapper ever by the numbers," leading them to speculate why then did the rapper not side with him.

In his 2022 interview, Ye drew a parallel between Drake and Jay Z, stating that while Drake knew how to rake in numbers, Jay Z was holding up the mantel of "inspiration" on his shoulders. Ye happened to be on point with his analysis at least of Drake, as the rapper, despite being cornered, found himself maintaining one of the most impressive Spotify numbers in hip-hop this year.

It is very likely that Ye may have not even had a change of opinion about Drake, but sided with Kendrick Lamar due to the other barrage of allegations that the rapper was levying against Drake.

Why did Ye support Kendrick Lamar in the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar beef?

Paralleling the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle and the planes that just vanished around, is why Ye does what he does. From why he would tweet "I'm nice at ping pong," to why he would support Donald Trump, or for that matter, Kendrick Lamar, the Grammy-winning artist, is quite a riddle. Fortunately, he presented an explanation in his remix as to why he was not on Drake's team.

The rapper mocked Drake's deal and insinuated that he had gotten it in exchange for some petty bucks. Although apart from this, Ye did not have any specific pain spots that he assaulted through his remix except for "I can't even think of a Drake line" and other vague attacks at the artist. Ironically, despite standing on opposite ends, Ye and Drake find themselves in similar situations, as fans wonder how they will pave their way back to the top.
