In the months when Ye (Kanye West 2.0) was staging what many saw as his epic career revival, his online comeback was the appetizer for fans starving for new music. Then, in classic Ye fashion, he shifted gears to sprinkle some of his Midas touch on the fashion world. But no matter how much he rebranded, one thing stuck like glue—his knack for kicking up controversy. This time, his 2022 comments may have thrown a wrench in YouTuber Candace Owens’ channel, possibly causing her to get booted from the platform.

For those who have been snoozing on this saga, here is the lowdown on why Owens got the YouTube ban hammer.

Ye may have pulled off yet another comeback after what felt like his millionth controversial chapter, leaving fans on pause, but not everyone has his magic touch—case in point: YouTuber Candace Owens. Owens recently took to X to announce and decry that the platform gave her a one-week timeout, citing that her controversial 2022 interview with Ye, which finally dropped last month, apparently ruffled feathers and violated the platform’s hate speech policy.

Owens claimed the interview got mass-reported over Ye’s supposedly antisemitic remarks, adding that there will be no show all week. She even shared a YouTube notification screenshot, where the platform explained it does not allow “content containing conspiratorial claims that individuals or groups are evil, corrupt or malicious based on their protected group status”. While Owens was out there championing the episode, this rapper, who also saw his partnership with the German giant go up in smoke over his comments, confessed to having been under alcohol’s influence in the chat.

Regardless of Ye’s intention, a YouTube suspension was not all Owens suffered.

Candace Owens claimed on social media that she got hit with takedown notices from the streamer for three videos, including her interview with Ye and a debate with Rabbi Shmuley, racking up three strikes for hate speech violations. The screenshots she posted showed YouTube had also pulled the episode over “claims that Jewish people control the media.”

Owens then received a fourth email, delivering the knockout punch about her channel being completely demonetized. Even if the ban gets lifted, she would not be making any money from YouTube. The email confirmed that her channel is now off-limits for ads because of content promoting hate speech. Although that did not stop Owens from doubling down on attacks, this just highlighted how the ghosts of the past keep haunting Ye just in time for his stepping into a new era.
