Did Kanye West Change His Name to Ye Because of His Love for Kim Kardashian or to Become Richer
Kanye West and his tweets have shaped an entire generation. From random takeaways on philosophical issues to his love for ping-pong, the Grammy-winning artist was truly a winner if Twitter ever had ever seen one. Yet the one tweet that quite literally defines the rapper now, is the one from 2018, which reads “The being formerly known as Kanye West. I am Ye.”
The change gave the audiences perhaps the most confusing rendition of what came first, the egg or the chicken, as his eighth studio album was also named ‘Ye’. And fans are still trying to solve the riddle.

While he announced that he will now identify as Ye on Twitter in 2018 it was not until much later that the court approved it. And by the time it did, the rapper was on the verge of divorce. However, he could not be happier to have made the change. Always a virtuoso of words, Ye explained how now that his name is legally Ye and Kim Kardashian has dropped West from hers, they will still remain ‘Kim-Ye’ if they get together again. And if the smile on his face was anything to go by, he believed his chances were quite high.
The Grammy-winning rapper shared the significance behind his name in his now-viral interview with Piers Morgan following a string of anti-semitic tweets. He backed his chances of getting back together with the reality tv star by saying they are only divorced on paper and that he will “always” love her. And to that fans have to say “Oh, how the tables have turned” as Kim Kardashian weeps and Ye roams around Italy with his new wife. Barefoot, of course.
While he did connect it to Kim Kardashian then, this name change was actually predicted to be a money-making move.

Given that the name change came not long after the release of his eighth studio album, it raised a lot of questions. Back in his billionaire days of 2021, Forbes magazine pointed out the industry was driven by authenticity, and by raising his nickname ‘Ye’ to his official identification, he nailed the art spot on.
The Grammy-winning artist was predicted to go higher up the hierarchy of the ‘Richest Black Man in America’ following the name change. However, these are all predictions that fell flat on the face after his controversies. What remains is the fact that the true meaning behind the name ‘Ye’ is because it is the most used word in the Bible and it means ‘you’.
