Despite Her Historic ‘The Eras Tour’, Taylor Swift Still Stands Millions Behind Biggest Box-Office Hits of 2023
This year had been witness to some of the historic moments in the record industry and one name to resurface now and then was Taylor Swift. From her singles breaking the chart records to attaining the top spot for Spotify’s Global Artists, the pop sensation’s unparalleled presence in the cinematic landscape also did not go amiss. Although The Eras Tour concert film earned $65 million in presales alone, it appears that the movie has missed the mark by keeping its momentum.
At least, in contrast to some of the big digests for the year, The Eras Tour movie is still fidgeting and lingering in the back corners.

Much like her musical prodigy, Taylor Swift ensured her concert movie to be no less of a spectacle. The Eras Tour was even made available for rent ahead of the holidays, attending to such immense love and large-scale appreciation. However, even with the unfaltering domination of headlines, The Eras Tour has been ranked at the 20th position for 2023 Worldwide Box Office by IMDbPro.
With over $250 million worldwide and $179,000 in domestic sales, it has not only been left behind by the blockbuster hits, but also with a sizeable gap. Reigning the summit with over $1 billion in global sales is Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, followed by a neck-to-neck cut by The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Furthermore, from what it appears, even the father of the atomic bomb has not had the last laugh with its estimated record of $900 million in worldwide sales.
Even though The Eras Tour concert film could not outdo the revenue-generating showrunners, it did break a string of records this year.

Having conquered the musical charts with effortless brilliance, her concert film served as an extra jewel in her triumph. Hence, when Taylor Swift made the unexpected deal with AMC, it broke the single-day ticket sales record of 2021. Furthermore, its production heralded a budget of $10-20 million. In turn, the earnings were a staggering figure of $160 million within the first week, which ensured its dominance at the US box office for the next two.
With its collection of over $92 million, the movie also became the biggest concert movie opening weekend, beating Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert. Adding to the string of milestones, the concert movie was also the first of its kind to surpass $100 million. Now, while it is true that the movie fell a leg short against the other box office triumphs, there is no doubt that it will remain the holder of many crowns.
