Ye aka Kanye West’s comeback after his 18 months of creative catnap last year was a major win for his fandom. But things took a downturn when controversy after controversy began popping up. Despite all the drama, Mr. West’s artistry remained on point, even if his fans did have to wait a bit longer for new content. As the year draws to a close, Billboard’s year-end charts have been released, but notably, the ‘Vultures’ artist did not make an appearance.

While his fans are accustomed to his occasional absences, the omission of ‘Carnival’ was somewhat surprising, given its previous success on the Billboard charts.

Within 10 days of Ye and Ty Dolla $ign releasing their ‘Vultures 1’ record, ‘Carnival’ debuted at #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100, but it took them merely a week or two to climb up the charts and call the summit their home. The track marked Ye’s first such hit in 15 years and despite that, when Billboard declared the Top 10 songs of 2024, ‘Carnival’ was nowhere to be found. Taking the top 3 spots are Kendrick Lamar’s anti-Drake track, ‘Not Like Us,’ Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck, Babe!,’ and Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Espresso.’ 

Billie Eilish’s ‘Birds of a Feather’ takes the fourth position, followed by Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy),’ Charli XCX’s ‘Girl, so confusing,’ Beyoncé’s ‘Bodyguard,’ Addison Rae’s ‘Diet Pepsi,’ Tommy Richman’s ‘Million Dollar Baby,’ and Taylor Swift ft. Post Malone’s ‘Fortnight.’ Although ‘Carnival’ made Ye the first rapper to have a #1 song in 3 different decades, making it the 20th #1 rap song of the decade, its no-show on the Billboard chart was quite a shocker considering the records it broke single-handedly.

Whether ‘Carnival’ makes it to the Billboard chart, his track only aims for bigger and better with his eyes on the Grammy. 

Ye has submitted ‘Vultures 1’ for two prominent nominations for the Grammy Awards 2025. If nominated, the album will be competing for Album of the Year and Rap Album of the Year. This is Ye’s first submission after 2022, which ended up getting him banned from the last Grammy event. Additionally, his ‘Carnival’ track has been submitted for four categories.

Again, if nominated, the standout track will run for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. This will mark 6 total nominations for Ye’s name. Although whether his ‘Vultures’ 1 will hold up its head in the rat race of the Grammys is up for debate, at least, fans can keep the anticipation that ‘Carnival’ will get its due credit even if it does not make it to the Billboard’s year-ending charts.
