“Completely changed my life”- How Taylor Swift Showed Gracie Abrams the Way Ahead in Showbiz

Taylor Swift this, Taylor Swift that—but does the world really know who Taylor Swift is? She is a cosmic storyteller, a wish-granter in a glittering bodysuit, spinning dreams at the speed of sound. After she left her fans stranded on the Heartbreak Express with the Eras Tour curtain call, Swifties turned nostalgia into their latest playlist. Yet, this year, it is not the record-breaking albums or even the holy ground of her music that has everyone talking; it is her, who has been sprinkling stardust on the next generation, giving a platform to the next wave of dreamers. Case in point: Gracie Abrams.
As it turns out, Swift was not only the inspiration but the catalyst, the game-changer, and probably the reason Abrams is in the spotlight.

Anyone who does not believe in the Taylor Swift effect are either oblivious to pop culture or simply ignorant. But Gracie Abrams is neither. Sure, she basks in the glow of her well-earned fame every now and then but not for a second does she take it or the people behind it for granted. In a candid conversation with ELLE, Abrams shared, “Taylor completely changed my life” and it all began with ‘This Is What It Feels Like,’ released weeks before Swift’s 32nd birthday.

Abrams recalled receiving a text from an unknown number, unaware it was the godsend messenger, Swift herself. “Hey, Gracie, it’s Taylor. It’s my birthday and if you’re in the city..,” the text read but all Abrams translated was a false alarm. But a month after she headlined the first ‘Good Riddance’ tour, she found herself in the credits of the Eras Tour, which she reckons as the ultimate game-changer. “It was like going to college for the job,” she mused.
Though star-struck and stuck in disbelief, Gracie Abrams knew it was her shot to the moon. And to ensure she does not falter, she did the homework.

During her candid conversation with ELLE, Gracie Abrams did not just ponder about the Eras Tour offer and how Taylor Swift made her dream-come-true. She took a trip down memory lane and jotted down everything she could in her capacity to prepare for the stage show. According to Abrams, she studied the nooks and crannies of her show every single night. And when she was not opening the Eras Tour shows, she live-streamed all of them.

Looking back at the experience, Abrams dubbed it a “master class in how to run a business.” She did not shy from announcing that sharing the stage with the Eras Tour creator may have been a career-defining moment for onlookers but for her? It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity she still needs pinches to. “Props to Taylor for being the light in a time when we all really needed one,” Abrams said. Though Swift is no Dumbledore, she sure cast a spell no one could ignore.
