Charlie Puth Sends a Musical Reply to Taylor Swift’s Nod to Him in 'The Tortured Poets Department'
Not everyone gets a golden ticket to Taylor Swift's lyrical narrative, let alone by their full name and in a non-cryptic manner. Yet, Charlie Puth finds himself in that exclusive club. Both artists share a bond that has been tucked away from the flashbulbs and fanfare. While they are not exactly seen rubbing elbows at fancy dinners or exchanging fist bumps on the sidelines of football matches, their friendship is quietly anchored in mutual admiration for each other.
As Swift extended a warm shout-out to Puth in her recent album, 'The Tortured Poets Department,' the 32-year-old may now be reciprocating with a bit of his own 'Attention' towards her.

In her album's title track, 'The Tortured Poets Department,' Taylor Swift name-dropped Charlie Puth with the lyrics, "You smoked and ate seven bars of chocolate / we declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist". After taking some time to process the shout-out, Puth finally opened up about it, hinting that her mention sparked the creation of his new track, 'Hero.' Through a TikTok video, he explained, “This is a song I wrote about my friend called ‘Hero'”.
Even though he did not directly specify the inspiration for the song, Puth hinted that Taylor Swift's tribute in her song, which was rumored to be about Matty Healy, motivated him to unveil his own work. Revealing a little beyond its May 24th release date, the artist concluded his announcement by acknowledging his "Hero," saying, “Thank you for your support… you know who you are". While Swift may have given him a shout-out in her latest song, Puth has belted out the songstress' tracks more than once in his live shows.
Charlie Puth has time and again proved that he is a die-hard Swiftie, consistently praising her musical talent whenever he can.

Charlie Puth has been a die-hard Swiftie for ages. During a 2022 performance in New York City, Puth covered Swift's breakthrough hit 'Teardrops on My Guitar' and praised her as the "queen" of classic chord progressions. He also delighted the audience with renditions of 'Fifteen' and 'Blank Space,' all the while encouraging them to check out his music before Swift's 10th studio album, 'Midnights,' arrived and took over everyone.
Even during his Live Experience Tour last year, the artist treated fans to a special moment with a spellbinding performance of Swift's chart-topper, 'I Knew You Were Trouble.' While it is clear that there is a mutual appreciation between the two music icons, Swifties everywhere are holding onto the hope that a future collaboration between them is in the cards.
